Default Coolant catch tank size with FE

How big a catch tank do I need for a Kirkham with an FE. (not the purge tank, but a little tank to put in place so that the purge tank does not drain to the ground) 1.25 quarts enough or do I need a 2.5 quart tank?

I bought a 2 qt canton (80-201 on the link below) and I have never even come close to filling it up- in fact, I've never even had it 1/8 of the way filled up. In fact, since I installed it, I think I have almost stopped spilling coolant entirely. You'll find when you first get the motor installed and running, you will dump a little every time you shut it down, but once all the air is out of the system, you will reach a point when there is "balance" in the system and it will stop dumping coolant. If you overheated it would be good to have a larger reservoir, but if you overheated 2 qts wouldn't be enough anyway. Bottom line,1.25 qt is way more than enough.

Cool, thanks!

How do you look in it to see the level? Most new cars have see through bottles, so it's easy to see the level. . .

If you look at the left side of that picture, there is a clear tube that runs the length of tank which is connected with 2 fittings coming out of the side of the tank. You can see the level through the tube.

Default Morosso makes a nice aluminium one

I used an aluminum one from Morosso and mounted it forward of the brake fill canisters. Local speed shops have them. [IMG][/IMG]
