David- Could you please tell me the location of the 4" hole in the trans tunnel for my TKO 600? I would like to measure up and over from the rear driver's side corner.
Thanks as always,
Jason

Jason,
Center of the Tremec hole.
26 3/8" from the rear edge of the tunnel to the center of the hole.
4 5/8" from the driver's side of the tunnel to the center of the hole.

Yes,
I am open to suggestions as to what to post next.
We have been really tied up around here with projects and cars but I am very happy to help if there is something else we can do for you.

I'd like to see the oiler cooler setup and the sidepipe installation specifically.

David,
With the quicktime bellhousing do you need to run the short input shaft? Also I saw in another thread (an ERA build) the builder used a spacer and didn't change the tranny input shaft. Is this a option with your build? Here is a link:

ng8264723,
NO!!!!
You have to use the short input shaft on both the big block and the small block. We do not use spacers on any of our cars.
Using a spacer is a bad idea anyway because you will move the engine forward--and hence the weight.

Too bad. I know it's not a big deal to change it just stinks they don't give an option for either shaft when you buy the new tranny!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Call Mike Forte. He will sell you a TKO600 with the short input shaft (and most anything else you need to go with it).

Yes, we finally designed the mount for the Quick Time bell housing. It is pretty cool. The mount is what holds the slave cylinder onto the bell housing. They are different between the Lakewood and the Quick Time.

David- Are the instructions and pictures for the oil cooler lines in the manual consistent? Are the filter/ oil cooler line reversed in the instructions?

Thanks for posting these pics.

Jason,
Those instructions are correct. Over the years we have changed the routing around to suit different schools of thought. We have also changed the routing as different lines have become available.
We finally came to the conclusion it doesn't matter which way you run the lines (as long as oil can flow). Some people want to cool their oil first; some people want to filter before the oil cooler so if the engine blows up then they don't loose the cooler too because the filter supposedly catches all the junk...
Well, after a lot of thought, we figured there were other things that were much more important...like routing the lines in way so that they were as far as possible away from bad things--like steering shafts, hot headers, etc.
Also, lately, we are using some really, really cool fittings on the end of our hoses. They are double swivel fittings. The hose can swivel on the fitting and the fitting can also swivel on the block, oil cooler, filter mount--whatever. This is TREMENDOUSLY important! If a line is not indexed properly between both ends then there will be a little twist on the line. The line (or the fitting it is attached to) will eventually fatigue and crack as they are subjected to heat cycles and pretty intense vibration. The double swivel eliminates that headache.

I just had to post a reply for post #197 as just a note to Tremec TKO 600 owners who are about to install their drive shaft. There is a rubber shipping bushing around the output shaft on the transmission that must be removed before the drive shaft yoke will fit in. It's about 1/4 inch thick and about 2 1/2 inches long an it will pull out with a pair of pliers if you work it out slowly. The reason I know this is because I was trying to put the drive shaft yoke in the transmission with that piece still in there and there just wasn't enough room for both. I called Denny's driveshafts and he told me that I had to remove that piece before the yoke will slip in.

Mike Forte has the tranny with the correct input shaft installed for $2,000 ready to go. That's the best price I've seen and eliminates the install headache

David,
You have been spending too much time on the Skunks Works car. When do we get more pictures and assembly instructions?
