HOw many polished out Kirkham 427 body styles have been sold?
I ran across Mr. Tom Kirkham at the Mini Nats driving a very stunning (and blinding in the sun)
polished out 427 body style car.
I forgot how many he said he sold of the big block body style, was it 125? Does that sound right?
Does anyone know if it takes a lot of maintenance to keep them shiny?
Is the body on his cars thicker than that used on the original Cobras?
(the originals used to get "road rash" on the tops of the fenders from gravel being thrown up by the tires)
What's the average price they go for with a 427 FE motor ready to run
with the alloy body?
Thanks for any info,

and some of those that were polished are now brushed finish or painted.

Proving, once again, that evolution is based upon trial and error.

They are having a special right now that you may want to check out on their website. It is a pretty good one! Or just call Dave or Tomas 801 377-8224.

I was told by the Kirkham shop that the polished finish is less maintenance than the brushed finish. Go figure. Seems counter intuitive.

They just don't understand patina and why it is a good thing.
Polish does show less fingerprints...and more scratches. It also makes you look fat when you look at yourself in its reflection.

I was told the scratches are "easy" to touch up and, yes, they mentioned the patina of the brushed finish, but that the brushed finish owners like that. They also mentioned that grease and grime in a brushed finish car might take some extra effort.

Grease and grime are easily taken care of with brake spray on the brushed finish.

Well, I spilled my cup of coffee all over my desk this morning, so for practical reasons, I'd rather not handle brake fluid on a regular basis.

No, you use brake fluid for cleaning a painted car. Brake cleaner for the brushed aluminum.
Oh, and don't try the brake fluid, as it cleans the paint right off (if you didn't catch the humor).

Has anyone ever clear coated a polished Kirkham? Do you think that might help with the maintiance issue?

Clear coat would not stick
I want to hear any comments on this as it is a constant chore to keep the polished car looking good. Someone suggested Zoop. Has anyone tried this product on a large plane surface?

Rock chipping of the clear coat would look like $#!t after a while (probably like acne). Maybe the alternative is something like a ZoopSeal, but I've never heard of someone doing a WHOLE CAR with that stuff.
