Hi Rod,
The other design is a bolt on bracket. I have a bolt on version too. I have several models depending on the clutch used. All is not a "cookie cutter world".
As for welding a bracket on, it is permanate and will never fatigue.
I guess there are a few options......

In 1993 Mike made the first conversion of a Ford Tremec to GM 5-speed. It bolts to stock bellhousings w/out an adapter. The FE Tremec, the Mustang adjustable quadrant are originals from Mike.

Which version (bolt-on versus welded) is stronger?

Hi Rod,
Neither of my external hydraulic slave/fork setups have had a failure. That said, I like the welded bracket because it can't fail because of the bolts loosening.
My thoughts are either of my external hydraulic slaves are much better than a hydraulic throw out bearing that requires removal of the transmission to repair a leaking O-ring.
