Default Why I own a Kirkham

I own a Kirkham because I wanted a Kirkham and not a Shelby. For the money that I put into my Kirkham I could have easily purchased a Shelby. For that same money I would have had a Shelby with far fewer goodies than I have in my Kirkham. When someone asks me if it is a real Shelby I say "no, it's a better made and higher performance reproduction of an original Shelby". If I owned a continuation Shelby, I would have to say that it was a reproduction of an original Shelby licensed by Shelby. I couldn't justify squandering the money for a name, but that's my preference and I don't have a problem with people that want the name. A few people that own continuation Shelby's tend to look down their nose at non Shelby cars and their owners. A lot of guys I know have Era, Factory Five, Contemporary, Superformance, ect. These are all great cars and fill the needs of their owners. I recently showed my car to a guy from Tucson who has owned 3 original Cobras, two 289 cars and one 427 car that he raced. After a half hour of looking my car over thoroughly he said "this is the most together reproduction Cobra I have seen". That comment made my day. I am going to sell this car and build another, because the build was as much fun as the finished product. When I do build another Cobra it will be a Kirkam because I value the people that build and sell them.

I like mine too, however I have never really encoutered anyone with a CSX car that looked down at mine or that I thought was a snob. We get what we can and if that does not satisfy us, we get something else. My little 25K Hunter was a helluva cobra and a damn good buy, I do not recall anyone looking down at it either come to think of it. chuck
