The collector looks like it necks down to 2 1/4', or 2 1/2" pipe as it goes into the muffler?

Should start up next week. I am so damn close I can smell the carbon footprint as I wright.
I will measure when I go back out but the collector area is deciving because the mufler has a sharper shape increase right there. I do not have any exact weights yet but they seem alot lighter. I thought they were alottile "off the reservation" at first I like them now. They will fit my look I am going for when they get older.
I am shooting for a broke racer look- all function no looks.

I used the Cobra Restorers pipes on my car. Looks great and you need to ceramic coat the mild steel anyway. They did require extending the side bracket at the tip and triming the headers to get a perfect fit, but it is doable. Just cut small amounts and be patient.

I recently ordered (and have received) KMS 542. I ordered the new style bullet exhaust in SS....in black. They look and sound just great.

Here is a picture of the steel pipes that were shipped with my Kirkham:
I don't know what the general concensus is, but I don't like them.
Here are a couple of pictures on the "new" new style steel pipes. They aren't brilliant, but they are much better than the first set and I can live with them. Joe is sending me a new pair of collectors so I will need to cut off my current ones and weld the new ones on.
This pictures came from Joe and he won't let on what the shiny alloy bits are in the background I guess all will become clear on that front on the open day.

It appears as if the only difference b/t the new ones above and the old ones is where the header collector merges. Is there any other difference. I wonder why this was changed? How difficult are they to change anyway

When I put them next to a shot of my pipes I think the new Kirkham's are actually "racier" than the old style pipes. They're different alright, but I really do like them. Here are both shots, one on top of the other -- the difference really is quite remarkable.

I'm sorry David, I didn't intend to drop Joe in the mire, he's been a real star
I should point out that my opinions on the side pipes are purely subjective and reflect my personal preference. One thing I will say is that the quality of fit is first class. Once the silencer is slid onto the headers, the mounting bracket is in exactly the right place to fit onto the car. No tweaking or "adjusting" required.

Are the diameters of the pipes before the collectors the same as the old pipes? Do these pipes flow any better than the old pipes?

I have custom sidepipes that have a slip joint after the collector. Before, when there was not that much concern about noise I could slip the whole sidepipe off at the track and run with just the collector. It was good for an extra 1-2 sec a lap. the same method could be used to easily change from a quite street pipe to a louder track pipe ina few minutes. I have 1 bolt at the back holding the pipe to the frame and in the front an interference slip fit. Just an idea!!

When I talked to Joe recently he said they had a line on some good bullet style mufflers in Stainless...I think I could handle the slip joint on the outside if they were the bullet style mufflers.
I think that an original looking side pipe should be kept as an option for us that want that period correct look. Stainless would be the ultimate but mild steel would suit my needs as well.
Tom, Joe... at this time can we get steel pipes like the ones in the photo that fatboy showed? the ones with all the billet stuff in the background? ( I won't even ask about that stuff, I am always impressed with the surprises that come out of the Kirkham shop )
