Default Local Kirkham Wanted in San Francisco

Are there any local Kirkhams in or near San Francisco or the Peninsula who's owners wouldn't mind me taking a few pictures of their engine installation so that I can do mine correctly? Seeing it in person would help tremendously, uh, at least I hope so.

Rodney - Dave (4Pipes) is in the South Bay area. I'm sure he'd be happy to help.

Well, I printed off the entire Kirkham assembly thread and everything that is available from the Kirkham site, and have read it, but in wanting to do everything "right" or correctly, I get confused with the installation of all the various components such as the oil vapor separator, intake manifold breather, fuel lines, oil lines, coolant tank, etc. How far back or forward does the engine go? You know stupid questions like that. I'm trying to get read for the drivtrain install and I'm getting really nervous.

As an example, the side panels come out of the Kirkham for easier engine installation, but like a dumby, I was looking for rivets on the engine compartment's interior, when you actually have to take off the wheels and get to the rivets from the wheelwell. Nonsense like that.

As you know I am doing KMP 498. I went through all the same questions. Do you have a cart to build it on? Even a lift would be great. I have spent many an enjoyable hour on a rolling stool lokking and thinking about the build. Get it off the ground pull the whells & hood & windshield off and you will see how simple it really is. I have been having a blast with mine.

big-boss, that brings me to a question, to install the engine, do you take out the windshield? Is that so someone doesn't break it when dropping in the engine?

Thanks, Ron. It sounded funny, but I could see the logic considering we are talking about me here. See my "SB100 woe" thread.

Rod,

I finally got my car back from Provo. They took it back to tweak a couple of items...they were terrific about it.

I could take photos of the engine, however I have had difficulty uploading them,, etc.

I am away weekends, but would be happy to find some other time to arrange a visit. I am located on the peninsula.

Al, I would love to meet up with you in the next few weeks, maybe on a Thursday or Friday. The buddy that will be helping me might want to take a look see. Neither one of us dropped a drivetrain in a Cobra before and seeing one that came from Kirkham would be excellent.

Hi Al, nope, not yet, but I think I'm getting closer to starting, though I've said that before too. I'm really getting antsy to get it running and soon. I have the car, engine and trans just sitting in my garage waiting and waiting and more waiting.

To tell you the truth, I'm actually looking forward to my BAR and CHP appointments someday. That'll mean my car is running.

If you're in town, then absolutely. I think I'm down the Peninsula from you about 20 minutes, so we're close i think. Just PM when you have some availability. I would oove to take some pics of the install especially since the Kirkham people did yours.

Rod,

Very sorry about delay. Not checking the site very frequently as I have been traveling, etc.

Let me take a look at schedule tomorrow, etc. an get back to you with some times/dates?

Also, if you send me your email address, I would be pleased to send you some photos of the engine well, etc.

al

Rodknock,

If you have a little time you should go to Reno and spectate at the WSCB.
There will be 6+ Kirkhams, 427s & 428s, as well as pro installer Tom Lucas from FE Specialties, Kirkham reps etc.

Via con dios

Kurt

Kurt, thanks, I would love to go, but I've got a kids sports weekend. I actually got a free invite from Tom at FE, since he built my engine, the one I haven't fired up yet (cross fingers).

Al, instead of tackling the job with a friend, I think I've hired an expert to perform the install. My friend and I got cold feet. So, while I would love to see your car sometime, I don't think I'll need those photos anymore, but thank you kindly for your offer.
