Once we were happy with the fit, we took the front cockpit tube, bent it to shape and then cleco'd it to the body. (That's the cleco you see sticking out here.) Then, we took a little tube and fit it to the cowl tube. We then lowered the body down onto the little tube, measured everything, and then...

Then you tack weld everything into place. Tack weld means very small weld--so it isn't so hard to break when you have to reposition the tubes because you measured wrong...

I think now that you guys have mastered all in your fiefdom...itc time to consider producing the Flip Top Cobra (The Turd).

Here is the tool we used to measure with. You see Sandwich using it in the previous picture. Because we had to measure around the radiator to our datum, we sheared a piece of aluminum exactly at 11.4 inches long. We made sure the edges were perfectly square then we could measure over to the body.

We write all the measurements down on the car so they can't get lost or walk away. Everyone knows what the measurements are and everyone knows we expect things to be as perfect as possible.

Great work.
The real question is this: Is David (Dr. Billet) & Company-- reinventing a simple Cobra Kit car or are they creating one of the finest pieces of art I have ever seen? (Yes, I have seen alot) It is almost a shame to put a body on it!

The project is planned as a one-off. I think it would be prohibitively expensive to sell these as a "normal" kit.
Everyone who sees the car says it is a shame to put a body on it. I need to think of a way to make the body easily removable. Now, that will be a trick that will probably not be possible. But, as you can see, I love a challenge.
