KMP 0498 Is Alive!
Started it up around 1:30PM today. Ran it for 10 min at hihger RPM's. Turned if off and started it up and ran for 10min more. No events. I absolutly can't not believe the Pro-Systems carb. I was told not to screw with it and for once I did not- I adjusted the rear float bowel and it even idels around 900RPM's. These guys are serious- this is my first custom carb- I will never use off the shelf again!
Note:
1. Remove any marks on your SS side pipes with thinner before fire up- yes they will Leave a Tatoo.
2. Hook up the crankcase vent system before or you will get oil over the back of engine not much but a mess.
3. It idels at operating temp between 40 & 45 PSI- I did not put in the extra OP spring. Just stright Percision Bluprinted.
4. 3000RPM right at 80psi.
5. With the electric & carter pump I only see 6psi of fuel with the bypass reg. I fooled with it but that was max. I need to figure that out.
No oil leaks or water leaks. The kirkham fan really pulls air.

You dont want more than 6 pounds of fuel pressure, otherwise you might cause carb damage. See you on the Road.

I thought the fuel pressure for a carb motor should be 14-15psi?

NOT for carbs. FI has higher fuel pressure.

I stand corrected, the proper fuel pressure for a carb engine should be between 8-9psi.

Big-boss,
Are you running the Holley pump that comes with the Kirkham AND a Carter mechanical pump in line?
I also have a Kirkham and I'm not far behind you in the build process. I also have the Kirkham supplied Holley and a Carter mechanical pump and I was advised to get rid of one of them, so I was goung to remove the electric pump. I'd be interested to hear your's and others thoughts.

We run 6 psi of pressure on the fuel gage. With the bypass set up that should be plenty. Your engine builder may have another opinion though... Lots of our customers run both pumps in line. Electric to mechanical. That provides some redundancy.
One trick with the Holley electric pump:
If you look at the pump as it is mounted in the car. There is a large screw/cap on the bottom of the pump facing the rear. If you pull this cap out you will find a spring. Stretch this spring out to about twice its normal length and then put it back in. This will keep the pumps internal regulator from bleeding off pressure and then you can adjust pressure with the bypass regulator.
Congrats on the start up! Very cool indeed.

What size carb CFM? Jet size?
