Default Kirkham Homecoming '08

First of all, many thanks to all those who attended the '08 Homecoming. This was the first time that we have done this type of get together and it won't be the last.

For those that do not know we had a 4 day get together. The first day was a driving school at Miller Motorsports Park. As always the staff at MMP was wonderful and bent over backward to make us feel at home.

The second day was a great open track day. The event was very informal and I think that everyone had a great time.

The third and fourth days were a cruise through the mountains and deserts of Utah. We spent the night at Ruby's Inn/Bryce Canyon. Although it was a long drive, the roads and scenery are unbeatable.

I will post some photos below.

Cars in the hot pits. Love the reflection of the perfect summer sky in the fender.

Some of the instructors in one of the school cars heading out to show us all what these cars are capable of

Sandwich heading out to set the fast lap of the day

Pic of some of the group that went on the cruise

Lined up in front of KMS ready to roll out. Note the super cool black cruiser that came along as an escort.

Our friends from Europe were very pleased that we arranged for a real American Cattle Drive.

I, for one had a great time!

To any of you who thought about going, but didn't...you really missed out. I was only there for the track day, but it was great. Essentially an open track all day long for anyone who wanted to go out. You could have been out there for 8 hours in a row if you and your car could take it.

Kudos to Dave (Sandwich) for setting fast lap (for a cobra, not driven by an instructor). My car was seriously crapping out (ate into my fun some), but there's always next time!

I'll try to post some pics, and maybe some videos if I can figure out that "youtube" thing .

Larry, I got your card, and will be sending all the pics I have (some from my Dad, too....his are the ones that are out of focus ).

BTW, I hope all of you went by the museum....WOW!!! Larry Miller has probably got as much money in cars in that museum, as he spent on the rest of the track. I didn't count, but I'd guess...8 cobras (including a dragonsnake, 289s...FIA and/or USRRC, 427 sc and full comp), a daytona, 2 GTs (J car, and mark 2...one of the '66 le mans cars), Williment supercoupe shell, maybe 7-8 Shelby mustangs, and a whole lot more. Don't tell anyone, but security just let us in with no supervision...contact me off line if you are interested in a lightly used, but original 289 steering wheel, a full set of 427 comp spinners, a Daytona drivers side mirrior in pristine condition, or the spare tire from the Shelby Cobra team tow rig...not usable due to age, but a great paperweight!!

Ron,

Thanks again for coming to the event. Sorry you were not able to attend the entire time. It is always great to see you and your father.

Lew,

Paint? We don't need no stinking paint! Actually I wish that you could have come out. It would have been nice to have some Mauritius Blue sprinkled in the mix.

Todd,

We will save a spot for you next year.

All I can say is that the Wayne County sheriffs department was very kind and actually told us that he appreciated us visiting the County and helping the local economy by spending our money there. Luckily, he allowed us to spend our money with the local business and not with the County itself. When one of the group mentioned that Utah was a beautiful state, he came right back with, "If you all will just slow down a little you will have more time to see it."
Fair enough.

Guys,

Had a fantastic time at the track! The ride with the instructor was better than any loop roller coaster I've ridden. I'm bummed that I didn't have time to do the cruse. A few more tweaks on my Kirkham and I'll be ready next time.

I really appreciate you guys checking up on me on my ride home from the track. Got home and the pressure plate all tightened down. (W red locktite this time)

You guys are the best!

Len

We had just passed a car, so the group had gotten a little spread out and the accordion effect was in full play. The tail was moving faster than the head... And sitting at the top of the hill was a little surprise... I think this was the only time when we stopped that we didn't stop traffic.
