Unless you order one, a Kirkham slabside is virtually non-existent on the used Cobra market. If that's what you want, then have Joe and the guys at Kirkham build you one. You could save a lot of money by "throwing" in a rebuilt 289/302 or even a crate small block with a Toploader, if so desired, along with a rebuilt Jag rear end.

I looked a for a while at the used Kirkham and CSX market and ultimately decided to buy new, because it was almost like being at Burger King and ordering it my way.

Just put a check box next to every option on the order form and budget for that amount.

Then wait for a sale...

Price your motor / trans and about an additional $5k for shipping, tools, and all the stuff you left off. Oh and don't forget the sales tax when it comes time to title it...

Some options will be difficult, expensive or imposssible to add later so keep this in mind especially when buying used.

Since I'm a BDR owner, not a Kirkham owner, I don't know if me piling on will help but here goes. Back when I was just looking around trying to figure out what I wanted, I knew what MY limitations were (and are) and knew that I wanted any paint and body work done before I got the car. That was #1 for me. Then I had to look around at what would fit me. Like Jamo, my size was a serious consideration and I knew how disappointed I would be if the car were uncomfortable (relatively speaking) to operate. To get a better idea of what I wanted I lurked here for quite a while asking sometimes inane questions and talked to any Cobra owner I could find. In the end I loaded up the family for a trip to London OH for the LCS. At a gathering this size you will have multiple examples of nearly Cobra make and a large cross-section of current and past owners to pester about their cars. At LCS I met Roushac and Jay from Vintage Motor sport and Roushac let me check his car out, sit in it fiddle with it and generally answered the remaining questions that I had. That trip to LCS was the last piece that I needed to lay down the cash for the car. The point that I'm trying to make, in a round about way, is that there is no substitute for; what was it? The butt in the seat test? The Kirkham's vehicles are recognized as the industry standard and you will probably love the car anyway, but the act of actually sitting in one before you commit has not been overstated in this thread. If you can't get to Provo, get to a Cobra gathering where you can check them out and talk to owners first hand. I think you’ll find it usefull.

Well I got the car. It was the first Cobra I ever sat in. I guess I'm crazy. It's a little small for me. I'm short but wide. I think the car was made for a thin English guy. I lift weights and have for years so I'm 5'9" 210 the doors are a little tight. The car is awesome though. I think I'll manage the fit. I love the way you sit high and see everything

Henry...

I had a 427SC COBRA (Rep) for 3 years, I am 5"10" 290lbs, so room inside the car was important to me. I'm catching the COBRA 'bug' again, so over the last 3 months, I have visited five Superformance Dealers (CA, NV, TX, AZ and CO) and sat in both Superformance and CSX models. I would recommend you do the same and just sit in one and see if your comfortable. Also go to local COBRA events and talk to COBRA owners, they love to talk about their cars and are very helpful. Kirkham is top quality. AWESOME CAR.

How do you plan to use yoru car? Are you planning on driving it a lot (2000 - 4000 miles a year) or more of a 'weekend warrior'? COBRA owership can become a 'lifestyle' with trips, events and your total investment). Are you planning on keeping it for many years (think about resale - What sells is: REAL? 427? ALUMINUM?).

Do your homework and good luck to you... Starting that motor is a rush...

I don't have a Kirkham and what I have won't be handed down. I love my daughter and I'll give her the world but the Cobra stops here. But it will be sold when I get sick. Why did I add that? Cliff

There is one huge advantage to not sitting or driving any cobras before your first, you wont be disappointed it what you found in looking at another, LOL. My first Cobra I bought sight unseen and turned out to be a homerun. Beginners luck no doubt. Get on a plane and go check them out, if you dont have time, you dont have time for a Cobra. How in the world can you have time for a Cobra when you dont have two days for a trip? I love buyers like you, I pick up a "new" car when you sale at 75% of what they pay!!!

The Kirkham’s usually have an Open House around the end of January. This is a good time to go visit. They usually have some kind of special offer. Lots of great cars to see and people to talk Cobra with. They are a great company to do business with. They totally back their product. Great customer service! Only problem...it's cooooold in Jan.!
