Thumbs up Violated KMP 357

Well, here are the pictures, as promised.

Actually, I'm not done. These are just through the skin. After I buy a new set of bits, I'm going into the underlying frame...just as the originals. But I gotta say, the steel that the Kirkhams used to make those frames is HARD. I shoulda opted for the aluminum ones, probably much easier to drill through.

I like the look. Maybe I'll put on a race screen next summer.

Obviously, I can't find the photo attachment STICKY. The search engine is not helpful at all.

Help anyone?

Ron
Excellent.

You might want to have the picture show on the thread rather than a link. Just click on the small picture in your gallery, and it will open a full screen picture.

Just below the big picture there will be a box that says

[img]http:// and the path to your photo will be here .......

Just do a left click on that box and do a COPY command. Then when you are writing the thread, do a PASTE command where you want the picture.

Its a lot easier for the reader .... like this ....

Thanks everyone.

Pat, I may take you up on your offer. I haven't yet decided on doing a cut-down full length windscreen (like yours) versus a quarter screen just in front of the driver. If I do the latter, I'll probably wait until I have a chance to take some measurements off of a real car. I have lots of pics of comp 427s, but never had a tape measure with me when I really needed it.

Hey Joe,

Any chance you'll be going by the Miller Motorsports Museum anytime in the near future?

I have to admit, it does look good.

Since my wife refuses to ride with me, I don't feel much pressue to protect the passenger. I really like what Pat did, and it certainly looks "period," but I can't say that I'd ever actually seen it done "back in the day."

Then again, putting a full-race windscreen may draw the ire of the authorities, and I'm not sure what it would do to re-sale value....though I try not to take that factor into consideration...I didn't buy this car as an investment. It's just simple, basic transportation to work and back....almost every day.

resale value is a non issue. The small shield is removable in 20 minutes and then you put the big one on if you want. any holes are covered by the big winshield rubber gasket

A correct racing shield is a half moon shape, it would leave a crescent shaped pattern of holes in the body as seen here:

I like the original racing shield, but it is very impractical (at least more so that the Buckley) and mine above leaves no trace if removed.

Ron...really nice job. I've been thinking about doing it, but I confess to being a bit chicken.

I was too, but I couldn't talk the Kirkhams into doing if for me. I just kept saying to myself "I did not buy this car as an investmet, I did not buy this car as an investment, ..." And eventually convinced myself that even if I was the only one who liked it, so freak'n what!

Before I bought the car, I considered an F-car. But I realized that short of a Tubi exhaust, you couldn't modify the car at all without being severely castigated (or was that castrated?). Either way, that would have taken half the fun of ownership out of it.

Next up, windscreen modificatons....
