How Fast is your Kirkham
I have been 147mph in mine on the way over to the open house. My Kirkham speedo was within the needle of my GPS I might note. It seemed stable (though it is not a Lamborghini Murcielago) and had lots of RPM left.
What have you guys seen? How did it drive? Light on the front?

My front tires wander at 130mph...need more caster. Of course my butt needs a cork at that speed. Don't know that I want to go any faster in the Cobra.

When I had mine it started getting light on the front at around 140. 100-120 was no problem, no drama. Still had another gear to go at 140 but not the cork to wind up 5th.

How Fast is your Kirkham?
Much faster than my ability/sense of preservation.

What's the speed rating on those tires ? I think I know, because I've got the same tires.
You only need to wring out a measly 17 MPH to catch up with big-boss.

I think I've gotten her up to around 75 mph. That puts me in 4th place.

Ask me that question in a month. KMP 493 still has a hole where the engine will be. Hopefully that'll change soon. In the meantime I can say how fast I've been in a Kirkham. It was track day at Miller Motorsports park two years ago or so and I was driving one of Dave's cars. It had a rev limiter in it for stupid people like me and I think it was set to redline at around 5800 or something like that. I had it floored on the front straight and in fifth gear. It had to be approaching 150. I let off the gas and the front tires re-gripped and it shuffled side to side a little as the nose came down. That's when I soiled myself. I've never returned to speeds like that again.

Had it above 140 several times on flat ground...no issues.
I was in excess of 150 on the banking at Fontana...really felt nailed down as it was being pushed to the assphalt. D. Smith had just told me in the grid not to be a pu$$y. He was right...in that venue, 10 mph slower didn't feel as good.
This was with a toploader...but lots of revs left thanks to Boghosian.

Speaking of revs....
MY ERA with the 3.54 rear and .64 OD is only turning 4400 when you crest the 150 mark. FWIW, 5800 is where my engine peaks on the dyno, but I am told that ERAs hit a funny type of wind resistance right around 160mph that can really startle you if you are not expecting it and have never experienced it before.

I have had mine to 159 mph ( gps tracked). The car was still very solid ( aka stable). I think with the windshield removed, slight change to suspension and the right gearing you would get a proper Kirkham to approach 190-200 mph.
My Kirkam has a Shelby Aluminum 427 Block & Heads, stroked to 495 ci ( built by Kinetics ), 5 speed tranny and the Penske adjustable suspension.

I've had mine up to 135-140 down a relatively short front straight. Rev limited (I think at 5.5K, at the time), toploader, Kirkham 3.42 rear end. I've since upped the rev-limiter and will see what I can do at Thunderhill in July.

Boss,
You are my hero for making that drive to open house.
I saw 130+ on the same short straight that Igofaster mentioned, on the open highway, I haven`t looked at the speedometer at speed for too long.

RaceDeck- 159. Was it on the street? Didn't feel light? Tell us more.
I haven't driven much after the open house and on that trip I had my hard cover over the passenger side- I am looking forward to going that fast with out the cover. Thanks
