I modded my own housing as all I got from KM was a picture of the back flange with a hole and an arrow pointing to it. As I understand it there was supposed to be more detailed instructions included, but I found this out after calling to verify that my measurements showed that the fork opening needed to be enlarged.
I used a laser line to get the centerline from the mounted cylinder to the centerline of the trans opening and measuring the fork from the pivot to the throwout bearing nubs gave me the distance from trans opening centerline for the location of the hole on the flange. I used a cutoff wheel in my die grinder to trim about 1/2" off the top of the opening for fork clearance. The fork has to be slightly higher to clear the frame rails. (probably not an issue with the 3" frame) After re-painting the trim-out you can't even tell it's there. David did tell me in another thread that the bottom lip should be trimmed off on the QT, just like the lakewood. (unless you don't mind it scraping) |

Obviously you have spoken to Thomas and that is correct -- the bearing end of the deal and some minor tweaks. You will enjoy and you are welcome... Scott p.s. it really is a piece of artwork -- thank you kmp. |
Naw...I was only able to talk to David, which means I'll probably end up with a billet fork that costs $100,000.

Just offset it with your next legal advisory meeting...

Hi Tom Cimino,
I have many different versions that are bolt-on and weld-on depending on the bellhousing used, chassis clearance and clutch type. I even have a push style for 302 stock aluminum T-5 & TKO bellhousings. What engine, clutch kit and transmission are you looking to fit? |

Hi JAMO,
I have a version to fit a Toploader. What clutch type are you using diaphram or 3 finger Long? |
Mike, I'm pulling the motor out in a few weeks since me thinks el clutcho is gone-o from several years of track use. Not sure what I'll be using going foward, but I may be talking to you and go whole hog. Scott's been talking highly of your setup ever since he used it in the tin can.

Hi Tom,
I can help you with the corrcet flywheel & clutch kit along with a bellhousing & release assembly. If you already have the bellhousing, I'll machine it @ no charge for the labor. Call me anytime today, |
Mike...thanks for all of your input and willingness to help, but I must remind you this is a manufacturer's (KMP'S) forum.
Thanks. :) |
I am in the process of fitting the QuickTime bellhousing and Kirkham clutch fork to 625. If you flip the billet bracket over (the slave is off-center) then the fork aligns exactly to the BH opening and no modification required to the BH. Has anyone tried this; is there a clearance problem? The billet projects about 1.5 inches lower than the standard install. I have been measuring in my engine compartment and it seems ok. Aside from my innate laziness, I prefer the smaller opening to contain clutch bits, etc.
Many thanks. Mark |
oops, never mind

I used the lakewood bell on my car with a tko. We milled the opening a bit. The heim joint thread needed to be cut down a bit as well. Otherwise it fit fine. I wonder how different the toploader fork is

Yes, I did. The first time I measured I used the wrong reference point and thought it cleared. When I measured a second time I found my mistake. I have already attacked the bell housing; it's not yours until you cut a hole in it!

Mark,
Call if you have any questions. Happy to help. David :):):) |
Thanks David, I will. It is fun and instructive to browse these archives as I do the hardware prep for installation.
Mark |
Mark,
Keep it up. You'll be motoring soon! David :):):) |
I know this is an old thread but...
On the Kirkham billet assembly, the heim mounted to the BH acting as the pivot is a newly drilled hole, no? I want to get this setup but the K's aren't answering the phone. If you're using it, tell me about it, please. It looks awesome. It'll be a part of KMP600 v3.1 :D |
