interesting posts.

paul's thread starter stated that it was titled as a 2005.

my general point was, given the new "era" we have entered into, cutting corners for something seemingly trivial can get you seriously hammered.

funny. The car is a good car. We just weren't sure about the year on the title. It does say Yr Model as 0000 but then it says just Yr as 2005. I just wasn't sure how California did it. We do have all the SB100 documentation from the state showing it as legitimate and street legal in California as well as smog exempt. I know this car won't be lowered any further. The family is currently looking for storage options instead of selling it.

I clearly remember, when standing in line January 2, 2008 for my SB100 #, that my paperwork initially had the model year as being 2007, BUT, the DMV manager came outside and reviewed everyone's paperwork, before the DMV actually opened up for business, and she snatched paperwork from several people waiting in line, including me, and took it inside to correct it. The model year was changed to "0000".

While I'm sure it won't be easy, a European buyer should be able to register it over there without INTERPOL putting them on their ten most wanted list.

Unfortunately, the owner, Scott Pierce, passed away from cancer about 1-1/2 years ago.. The car is fantastic to drive. Big power, but very driveable and well balanced/tuned. Starts easily.

Just curious why you think it's a "tough car to sell for several reasons."

If importing into the UK, the DVLA (UK Licensing authority) will issue you with a UK registration matching the year of the documentation it was imported with. Therefore, if you can get it "re-registered" is a 1960's car, that is what it will be registered as in the UK, sinple as that. That will have the added benefit of circumventing any type approval requirements and provided the registration is pre-'73, it will also be classified as "Historic" and be road tax exempt.
The DVLA won't investigate the paper trail in the U.S. and once the car is exported, the U.S. paper trail won't matter.

He must be thinking it's a tough sell because of the economy. I can't think of any others.

If I didn't have one already, this car would be in my garage for sure.

I'm thinking about storing it in my garage in exchange for a one-time fee to the Seller.

Finally, After hundreds of calls from out of state/out of country buyers, I had a local person come today and spend 2 hours with the car. On Tuesday, we are going to put it on the lift for his inspection. He loved the car. He has owned several original CSX 289 cars and he was very impressed with the details of this car. He went through all the records and came to the conclusion that Scott left no stone unturned and was relentless with his pursuit of the perfect running Kirkham. We took a brief drive (first time the car has been driven in a month) and it purred and ran without so much as a backfire or hesitation. It started up on the first try and he was amazed at how smooth the power was.

Mine was titled via SB100 and the title showed the 0000 and then yr 2004 and it went to Italy. Buyer said he could register it there even after seeing the title.

Well, the Kirkham FIA was a great deal for someone. The Best Offer of $74,000 is the winner:
