Looks lame. What do you learn? Looks like you are just putting on a show. Certainly not the quickest way to get from A to B. Kind of like smoking your tires off the line, a crowd pleaser but not the fastest launch.
Anyone who has ever driven in the snow knows the technique. Stay with autocross.

I don't own a cobra yet, but I know I would prefer Autocross any day of the week rather then drift.... As JayBar put is so nicely, If you can drive in snow you know this technique....
I may even try to come watch if it is still going to be autocross.

Rob,
AutoX, for sure!
But use a sprinkler on the course like they did in one part of that video to "help" them break their tires loose.
Would sure make the AutoX more "interesting".
Just a joke, please don't take me seriously on this, OK?

autocross for me too.
I think quite a few of us were "drifting" around the course last year anyways.

wow! that looks harder on the tires than autox is on trans.
If i were attending, (and sadly i'm not) I would not do drifting. Would more than likely do the autox.
I'm learning to do a nice drift with my RC cobra, though.
stick with what you know....

Drifting on dry pavement is MUCH harder than on dirt or snow, there really is no comparison. There are basically two methods to get the rear to come out: emergency brake (used a lot) and breaking the tires loose (often by 'kicking' the clutch). The sport is pretty hard on the drive train, not to mention the tires. And that assumes you stay on the course, and often you don't (when your running a real road course track).
I would give it a go on WET pavement, which is more like dirt or snow, but I'd never drift my ERA on dry!
I've drifted a bunch of different cars, the Cobra was BY FAR the most difficult to KEEP in a controlled slide and the easiest to get a slide started. The back end wants to come around, and it will with little or no warning, very touchy car. It's a terrific 'spectator' sport, I'm going this weekend to a drift session, just to watch.

The SCCA 'cone racers' started getting really pissed off when a few 'drifters' started attending the events and mysteriously 'got sideways' a number of times.
Now they make a BIG point of 'no drifting' at the events (bunch of spoil sports if you ask me).
Do the autocross, and if the spirit moves you, let it all hang out.
Fart in the library? Now THAT was funny!

Maybe you should start with a Drifting exhibition this year with some one that really knows how to do it and has their car set up properly for drifting. These guys are just sliding around cones not really drifting. Same as the old winter parking lot drifts we did in college with muscle cars. think you would need to set up front suspension and lock to lock differently if you want to seriously try this, and maybe make sure you have a roll bar that works, a helmet, a harnass and a fire extinguisher as the basics. Autocross is much more fun as anyone can attempt it regardless of their experience, just some are slower. This would keep alot of folks from participating. More watching, less doing.

Excaliber said it all. Drifting is something you do with someone else's car!

Based on all of the prior "positive" feedback we decided to abandon this idea, and are proceeding with an Autocross on Sunday

Thanks !!!!!!!!!!!
What a relief !
You were going to put our cobra's in the "open idiot class"
I would think cobra events should be loud pipes, cool cruising and CLASSIC above all.
Perry.
