Default Drive up to Staatsburg, Sunday 10/15

The Staatsburgh State Historic Site, a 65-room beaux-arts estate on the Hudson River, is the site of an October car and “Car Capers” costume show, The Gathering of Old Cars. The Catskill Mountains across the river are displaying their splendid fall foliage and mansion tours are also available.

I was told this event is worth it just for the drive up there via the Taconic.
Starts at 11AM. Lots of Vintage cars, dunno about american muscle. I'm taking the GT40 since the Cobra's temporarily laid up with a manifold leak
Going with an E type Jag and a '55 Porche Spyder. Anyone up for this and care to join me, give me a buzz or PM? I'll bring a bagel for ya. Cheers!

What a great drive up the Taconic and the backroads of Salty Point and Hibernia, NY. Great crowd, no entry fee, no judging, just a nice fall day to be out. The mansion was also fantastic. Folks from all over: Penn., Mass.,Vt., We should all drive up there next year.

Hi Joe,

It was a little over 2 hrs each way. The ride was terrific. The GT40 is a real driving machine. The Taconic was clean (of Troopers) to boot. I had my trusty Valentine1 although most everybody was doing 80. Once I exited off the Pkwy, the real fun begun on those deserted twisty backroads. The car died suddenly on the way back, and with the help of some enthusiasts who stopped to help, we figured out it was a bad crimp on the main power connector to a relay I installed at the ignition switch. I also discovered that the bolts on the inner CV joints of the transaxle were coming loose (I guess from all that spirited driving). I have to drill them all and safety-wire them this winter.

Cheers!

Ray, thanks for the pics. Your car looks fantastic. I would love to get a ride in it one day.
