Fall Foliage Run - Potential Turnout for Sunday?
Need a quick read on how many LI Cobras would be in for a drive this Sunday 10/19? If there is a significant interest I will get the plans together to include more cars coming either on the Port Jeff Ferry or Southern areas.
Intention is to plan a drive with several checkpoints that will allow drivers from different starting points and different paces to be involved. Updated Route: Route 8 North (Thomaston) Route 254 (Litchfield) Route 63 (South Canaan) Route 7 South (New Milford) Route 202 Route 67 Route 133 (Brookfield) Route 25 (Trumbull) * ** Route 8 South * Optional Exit onto I-84 ** Optional Exit onto Route 15 This would be about 150 miles for the full loop and should be covered in less than 3 hours without stops. Factor in about 4 stops of 15 minutes and you have a 4 hour trip. See proposed route here: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&sadd...,0.598755&z=11 If the time out of Bridgeport start is 10am that makes it all wrap up by 3pm with a 1 hour lunch break. And gives plenty of time to get home before temps drop. Lets hear it? |
I'm in. I can join the caravan at Rt8 & I 84.

Jay:
Just a suggestion, take Route 8 as far as Thomaston, from there take 254 and 63 to Goshen. A far more scenic route and a much better drive. Both roads are free of stop signs, lights and rough road. A very pretty drive at this time of year. Bob |
Sounds like a great afternoon as long as the weather is good. I would be coming over on the ferry.

One more thought - The Bridgeport/PJ Ferry Company www.bpjferry.com does not allow cars on-board without tops or covers (I know this since I have made many a trip to the Island to travel with these guys). Anyone coming over on the ferry needs to go to Home Depot or Lowes and get a 2 or 3 mil piece of plastic to cover their cars on the way over.
If the weather is good Noreen and I could meet anyone who decides to take the boat at the dock and get them on their way. Let us know. Bob Don't worry about cool air, it makes more HP! |
lets drive

Keep this one near the top...
I need a lunch stop suggestion so I can call ahead with a rough count. I believe we have atleast 15 sure bets for the drive at this point. Anyone know a good burger stand up in the Litchfield area? |
There's a Dunkin Donuts, Sunoco gas, and a commuter parking lot at the Thomaston exit on Rt 8 at Rt 6. I think we can access Rt 264 through Thomaston. Might be a good place for anyone joining the run from this part of the state.

I think the Aspen Gardens (Litchfield) has Pizza take out and they do have outdoor seating with pretty good parking right next to the restaurant. Canaan may have fast food.
A good place to put the whole group together might be at the beginning of Route 254 in Thomaston. There's gas and a DunkyDonuts there. Coming up form the south take Exit 38 off of Route 8. The map below is my favorite route to LRP. Rick, are you in? Gary, Joe D, Anthony will you guys be in attendance? Bob http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...tolimerock.jpg |
Litchfield has some options for eating. Tough to find by Web alone. Among the options:

Count two in my car.
|
Assuming a dry day, I'll have two.
