So Dean, does your preparation include selling your Cobra? Or just fight the good fight and be prepared to pay a premium to continue to drive your toy?

RED: Do your research? I'm merely pointing out that what you state is speculative in nature, and by no means facts. If you have some hard data and policy drafts with vote dates, you might have something.
Much of what I hear these days politically is speculative, with everyone claiming to be "in the know".
I'm interested in the Dragnet perspective: "Just the facts, ma'am. Just the facts."

Doug #1, NO WAY! They can pry the keys from my cold, dead fingers. I'll ante up to the tax reaper when he comes knocking on the door. I just hope he brings a bar of soap.

Doug #2,
I could point you to a dozen ways to work Google ("carbon management", "carbon footprint", "carbon software", "cap and trade legislation", "carbon monitoriing"), or point you to the actual Congressional record (which also has a search feature...Did you know that the House and Senate have 17 active bills being debated for just identity theft alone?!? Did you?). But I think you can handle that on your own (you can handle a race car at speed...this should be easy stuff). Here's a snip-it from the UK, and they are already there and we're right on their heels:
http://environment-analyst.com/1957
Stop for a moment and think about this one statement: Do you really think I would work for a publicly traded company (Fortune 300) that is prepared to invest MILLIONS in this software if it weren't true?!? And then share the potential fallout to the Cobra community just for freakin' grins?!? Come on, give me a break. I'm much better than that and most users here would agree.
Welcome to the 21st century, the new world order. Drive your Cobras like you stole them and keep burning that $3/gallon crude. The party won't be lasting a whole lot longer. I'd love to hear some of the Aussie and UK guys chime in, too. They get it (case in point...they are all installing GM LS1/2/3/6/7 motors in their replicas for a reason).

I'm quite capable of googling whatever carbon emissions management data there is on the web. Where your argument breaks down is the translation from industrial energy consumers to poor schmucks like me that own and drive a Cobra.
Furthermore, taxes aren't always about money. Sometimes they are a means of regulating human behavior---corporations being a large collection of people. Citing the money hungry government bad guys out to grab more cash from the unsuspecting citizens just sounds paranoid to me.

Have any of you walked thru the California Capital parking garage? Our senators and congressmen do not care what kind of tax you put on their cars. They don't own them. The ones not driving have limos. You won't find many gas saving cars in the parking lot.
Sorry Dean, venting...........

I heading out the door this morning in hopes of moving nearly 400 tons of wood fiber just like I do every day. I would be happy to sell you all carbon credits to stop me....

Where it will die an early death well before the informational value to the masses is realized. It was a more visible topic where it was. Whatever, Mods...it's your world, I just live in it.

Actually, threads live longer in the Lounge than anywhere else simply because nobody gives in, regardless of the informational value. As you say... whatever.

What defines a "carbon footprint"? Isn't it relative to gas consumption?
If so, then taxing the gasoline at the pump seems to be the most logical way to accomplish this without black boxes, GPS systems, registrations etc etc.
In any case, those pushing electric vehicles to reduce pollution seem to think that electricity is clean. Ever been past a coal burning power plant?
Seriously, I don't think our goverment has its sh%$ together and it's being led by an "Empty Shirt"

Amen.
Is it the person themselves or their experience that drives them to make the decisions that they do?

Yeah. That pretty much sums it up.
In the end we are to blame for not stopping it and not getting rid of the bums.
If you don't fix the problem you will continue to get what you got and maybe worse.

Amen x2. Evan is absolutely correct!

Remember, most politicians are lawyers as well.

Yes, lawyers that couldn't make a living at it! It seems that DC attracts the bottom of just about every barrel, usually. Very interesting how so many go in relatively poor and come out multi-millionaires, though. Soem real financial wizards turning a couple hundred k a year into millions!
