This fits with what we do with school grades where kids get an 'A' just for showing up.
Carter deserved the award - he does not deserve to be called a loser for this accomplishment.
But Obama?!? What in bloody hell were they thinking?!?

Let’s take a look at the president’s first 12 days in the White House according to his public schedule:
January 20: Sworn in as president. Went to a parade. Partied.
January 21: Asked bureaucrats to re-write guidelines for information requests. Held an “open house” party at the White House.
January 22: Signed Executive Orders: Executive Branch workers to take ethics pledge; re-affirmed Army Field Manuel techniques for interrogations; expressed desire to close Gitmo.
January 23: Ordered the release of federal funding to pay for abortions in foreign countries. Lunch with Joe Biden; met with Tim Geithner.
January 24: Budget meeting with economic team.
January 25: Skipped church.
January 26: Gave speech about jobs and energy. Met with Hillary Clinton. Attended Geithner's swearing in ceremony.
January 27: Met with Republicans. Spoke at a clock tower in Ohio.
January 28: Economic meetings in the morning, met with Defense secretary in the afternoon.
January 29: Signed Ledbetter Bill overturning US Supreme Court decision on lawsuits over wages. Party in the State Room. Met with Biden.
January 30: Met economic advisers. Gave speech on Middle Class Working Families Task Force. Met with senior enlisted military officials.
January 31: Took the day off.
February 1: Skipped church. Threw a Super Bowl party.
So there you have it. The short path to the Nobel Peace Prize.

Actually I can sum up his accomplishments in two powerful words, rather than a long list.
"Gave speech." Should be plural. His speeches were terrific! Giving hope not only to the USA but to the world. Raising the level of respect for America from an all time low to a new high.

Ernie,
Raising the level of respect for America from an all time low to a new high.
Sorry but I have to disagree with you on that. We are still hated by most of the world and are now considered cowards along with it. Giving speeches, no matter who does it does not fix anything. It takes action not words. Putin, (spelling) said that Obama is living in a dream world. Both Israel and Palestine have basically told him and Hillery to butt out. But there is still hope. I see that North Korea is broke again and needs money to finish their bomb and missile program so they are willing to talk to him again. I just wonder how many Billions that will cost us. This is not meant to be argumentative, just my opinion which is worth about as much as yours.

I was basing my opinion of the Worlds new respect for the USA on this:
Quote:
A 25-nation poll of 27,000 people released in July by the Pew Global Attitudes Project found double-digit boosts to the percentage of people viewing the U.S. favorably in countries around the world. That indicator had plunged across the world under President George W. Bush.

Speeches, LMAO. I think the Nobel committee have been smoking a peace pipe for too long. And we all know Ernie lives where they grow the good stuff!
BTW, here's the folks that BHO beat out. I guess they don't espeaka as well as him.
Sima Samar, women's rights activist in Afghanistan: "With dogged persistence and at great personal risk, she kept her schools and clinics open in Afghanistan even during the most repressive days of the Taliban regime, whose laws prohibited the education of girls past the age of eight. When the Taliban fell, Samar returned to Kabul and accepted the post of Minister for Women's Affairs."
Ingrid Betancourt: French-Colombian ex-hostage held for six years.
"Dr. Denis Mukwege: Doctor, founder and head of Panzi Hospital in Bukavu, Democratic Republic of Congo. He has dedicated his life to helping Congolese women and girls who are victims of gang rape and brutal sexual violence."
Handicap International and Cluster Munition Coalition: "These organizations are recognized for their consistently serious efforts to clean up cluster bombs, also known as land mines. Innocent civilians are regularly killed worldwide because the unseen bombs explode when stepped upon."
"Hu Jia, a human rights activist and an outspoken critic of the Chinese government, who was sentenced last year to a three-and-a-half-year prison term for 'inciting subversion of state power.'"
"Wei Jingsheng, who spent 17 years in Chinese prisons for urging reforms of China's communist system. He now lives in the United States."

"Gave speech" was a bit tongue in cheek by the way. But hey, it's about all I got for the guy right now. Of course, I remain "hopeful"...
Some one once said the pen is mightier than the sword. This award would seem to bear that out.
Impeccable source? Actually I have no idea who these "Pew Global" folks are, but I like their poll.

President Barack Obama Nobel Peace Prize win mocks award
In one fell swoop, the Nobel Prize jury just made a mockery of the world's most revered honor and handed Barack Obama's opponents a great talking point. They wounded two doves with one stone.
The Nobel Prize for Peace had already fallen far in the estimation of much of America. It was already seen as captive to the political left and a handful of crazy causes. For many years and many prizes, that was unfair.
The carping got louder when Al Gore shared the prize, even though that was based on a real body of important work.
Now, there's no more debate. Even the left-wing will have to acknowledge they put ideological sympathies ahead of achievements.
The Prize - which meant something once - is now officially a late-night joke. And like it or not, Obama is part of the punchline.

It is Dawn in America...
the sun is starting to shine on the City on the Hill...our long and frightening nightmare is coming to a end....all over the world the people that love America and what it stands for are congradulating our brilliant and courageous young President who is leading us, and the world toward Peace and Prosperity...toward a free and just society. And of course the enemies of America are outraged....those that wish us ill and laugh at us when we fail... GOD BLESS AMERICAN AND BARAK HUSSEIN OBAMA....

Carter is a loser's loser.A loser on the grandest of scales. His "loser-ness"is boundless and shows no sign of abating.

No one cares about the reaction ...
by the Taliban or Bin Laden or Faux or talk radio or the Lounge (thank god)...but the Republican's have already stepped on their dick ...and as someone with some skin in the game this might be a defining moment for them among independents... perhaps they should be on suicide watch ...hopefully a adult will come forward and show just a little class... damn this is fun....

What happens when the President wins this award? Does he keep the money?
