So the guy was a minor adviser on an inconsequential paper published by a third-party think tank. Literally thousands of such papers are produced every year by hundreds of sources referencing hundreds of thousands of "participants." Onlly a handful of those papers ever get read at a policy level and their impact even then is questionable.
That's hardly equivalent to "advised [the] Obama transition." I think it's a lot more disturbing that the guy was retained, educated and trained by the US Army with the obvious red flags at regular intervals. And gosh, all under Commander Bush, too...

I heard that this psychiatrist gave a "grands round" lecture, and spoke only of how important the Koran was, and that all non-believers should be decapitated with hot oil being poured down their veins. It left the audience speechless.
He was a crack-pot waiting to explode, which he did.

Maybe spend about $0.40 for a .223 round. Price of ammo is up.

Wanna see hypocrisy? A white cop arrests a black man in Cambridge, MA for breaking and entering, Obama calls the cops stupid. A muslim nut case on a CIA watch list (radical postings on the web) kills 13 people and injures 30+ on a military base and Obama insists we must not rush to judgment (is he a muslim terrorist?).

Taken in a vacuum I would say absolutely that it is hypocrisy. Obama certainly did rush to judgment regarding the situation with the Cambridge cop.
On the other hand, maybe he learned from that and decided not to make that same rush this time.

I was not referring to you.
Steve, I think this has more to do with Obama's relationship to the Islamic faith.

I'm devastated.
Now that I've gotten over it though - if I truly believed the leader of my country was a sellout/sympathizer to radical terrorist enemies of my country, I sure wouldn't be sitting around griping about it on a social forum. I'd be getting ready for civil war.

I have rethought this. IF it turns out to be a terrorist act (as the evidence is now indicating) and one that had influence from radicals in the Middle East (re: the radical Imam Anwar al Awlaki) then Obama has a BIG problem on his hands. This would be the FIRST act of radical Islamic terrorism on US soil since 9/11.
This would clearly explain why the administration is "playing it down".

IF this is true, then you have to ask the next question: "is this because Obama is percieved as weak?" and/or "is this due to Obama's foriegn policies of appeasment?"
Yes, he is an appeaser. He has appologised all over the Middle East for America's "errors". He signals that he will negotiate with rogue leaders. Chavez LOVES him (not publicly). And I believe (though we may never get the truth on this) that Obama has led us to a point where attacks on US soil are again possible. You say "but hasn't a number of cells been arrested since Obama has been in office" and you are correct. But the efforts made under the Bush administration will soon run out. And with new efforts quashed by Obama policies, we will soon see more and more brazen attacks on American interests.
After 9/11, Bush 0, Obama 1.

Another problem that has to be addressed too is the fact that this is a terrorist from inside our military ranks. Such terrorists can change the outcome of a fire fight quickly since they are already behind our lines and trusted. I also want to know how he is allowed to CHOOSE to not be deployed. If I had ever refused a deployment I would have been court marshaled before I could finish the word NO.

I understand your burning need to blame this and any other unpleasant event on Obama, but the extent to which you are stretching circumstantial issues is laughable at best.
This crackpot could have cared less who is in the White House and whether or not their foreign policy is one of "appeasement". He would have done what he did even if Atilla the Hun himself was president.
Yes he may have gotten fuel for his fire from the rantings of a radical imam and he clearly sympathized with the Islamist jihad, but his meltdown appears to have been an individual act and a far cry from an organized act of foreign sponsored terrorism on US soil. In spite of the fact that his beliefs are rooted in Islam, this is more and act of domestic terrorism than anything else.
Now, if it turns out that he was a sleeper agent or a "winter soldier" implanted in the US military by Al Quaeda, then that's a whole different story. Highly unlikely though. Not every a$$hole who shouts religious slogans while going on a shooting rampage is a bona fide foreign terrorist.
I know I'm wasting my time going against the excited clamour to turn this event into an Obama indictment so I'll bow out and let you have your fun.
One thing I think is worthy of discussion though is the politically incorrect question of whether it is even possible for a devout Muslim to serve loyally in the US Armed Forces given todays global realities - and what measures could/should the US military be taking to address this concern. I will start a new thread so as not to drag this lynching party off topic.

We will see. Bush got blamed for crap at a much lower level than this.
And yes, Obama is an apeaser. The VERY first "I'm sorry for..." proved it.
As for the PC incorrrect issue, I already brought that up in this or another similar thread. Our soldiers should never have to worry about the loyalty of other soldiers.
