In the article Tom posted it's pretty clear that different methods need be applied to different people. Discerning what works is the key, not easy. While water boarding worked well on this guy, maybe not so much on the next.

He can't look like a deer in headlights...he's too busy bowing down to foreign leaders while having a poor outlook of his own country.
That's all you have? You like his review of the Afghan war? Please.
This man has done NOTHING worthwhile to this country while he's been in office. But apparently he's got his hands in a lot of other pockets.

Can someone please tell me where the Geneva Convention applies to these scumbags? I can't find it.
Does anyone remember Reagan rejecting Protocol 1 of the Geneva Convention which would have included terrorists.
Do your research. Become informed. Don't live in a bubble.

Indeed, the USA has rejected, at least in part, the Geneva Convention. I do "hope" that will "change" (if I could borrow a phrase of two).
Beyond the GC there is the military law, government law and common decency/ethics laws that still apply, to everybody. Especially so for those actively engaged in "war".
These "scumbags" (and they are every bit of that) and every other person engaged in war have certain rights and responsibilities to prosecute that war within reasonable guidelines. Some adhere to the standards, others don't. "Well everyone else is doing it" never was a good excuse when you were eight years old or 80 years old. Kind of sucks too...
I see the polls declare that National support is down for Obama's handling of the war effort. In my opinion, therefore, most folks are to short sighted. I look forward to Obama's coming address to the Nation on the war plan. I think it will be a huge event and well recieved (by MOST folks, certainly not THIS conservative forum).

Ernie...did you get Roscoe's point though?
Living under a one-way contract is a fool's game. They are depending on us to do so and lose faith.

It makes a tough battle that much tougher. Granted it allows the enemy to take advantage of us as well. Perhaps a good example is the very subject of this thread! SEALS under investigation! We need to let the investigation proceed. Good on them their asking for a court martial and not whimping out for a lesser hearing. The men got balls, I wish them the best.
"One way contract", I do see the point, but I can't make the jump to justify our actions outside of the commonly accepted "rules of engagement". Painful though it is to say that.

The pain we create by conducting ourselves by unilaterally impossed rules is what we cite as the rationale for pulling out.
The populations we are trying to win over get victimized by the brutality of the terrorists when we're not around, and we're talking about pretending our way is somehow more Ghandi-like?
Folks (whether they live in a cave or a Levitt-towne) will always put immediate security for themselves, their families and their clans first.

A good analysis of why the Taliban are gaining ground. Were paying the local police more to "inspire them", paying the farmers to quit growing poppy flowers, building bridges, roads, infrastructure for the people to gain their support.
Basically that is what McCrystal says is the key to victory there, thus the need for more troops. As McCrystal has said, we may be to late to ever win at this point (local support, thus the "war") even with additional troops. Do we then stay, add more troops and try to make it work? Or do we focus more on Al Queda and give up the Afghans as a lost cause?
I don't know, I like McCrystals plan, hate to give up now after 8 years or so of investment there. Still, sometimes you gotta fold your hand. BIG question remains unanswered: How we going to pay for this? Were freakin' broke all ready! I'm leaning toward a downsize, rumor has it Obama is leaning toward a troop increase. It's a tough one...
