Tallest building in the world
Dubai. Is it not absolutely amazing the the tallest building in the world is in the Middle East? The same place that sent terrorists to our country to destroy the Twin Towers?
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,581749,00.html
And on top of it all, look at the picture. Its a phuking desert out there! For 100's of miles! American skyscrapers were born out of necessity... land was scarce and the only way to go was up. These gold laden idiots have nothing more on their minds than the rediculous display of their wealth (re: indoor skiing center)

Anyone up for taking flying lessons. Just how to get off the ground. Landing will not be required.

Watch out Ron, big brother might be watching this site and see your message about flying lessons.
How about we look into doing something original. How many cobras would we have to drive into the support structure to down the building? Maybe we could build new kids made from titanium.

Good points there CW. I especially liked the part about what THEY would say about our spending habits.
...as I motor away in my totally impractical 500 horse Cobra that will barely carry two jug's of milk back from the store.

Mike,
I think the building structure was put up by Belgian Co, B6.
I heard that certain higher level floors were reserved for "special" use equipment.
In other words, don't fly tooooo close.

The tallest building in the world at any time is in an area where some egomaniac has more money than sense. Check the history of "tallest buildings" and you'll find no exceptions.

Any fire fighters as members here -- how do you deal with fires in buildings that tall?
That could be a long hike down the stairs for the occupants in the event of a fire and the elevators are shut down!

Wait until the building burns down to the height of their equipment, and then put it out.

Yeah, it would be scary to be in a building that tall if, say, a huge fire broke out somewhere in the middle floors.

In the US buildings above 20 floors or so are required to have water storage on the top floor to run the sprinklers via gravity feed as well as potable water. Power generators (minimum 2) are also required to keep the lights and elevators running in case of a grid failure. The Phone co. buildings downtown are spec'ed for 2 weeks without power feed from the grid, there's about 200,000 gallons of desiel fuel stored under the one here in Jax.
Our Battleships and B-52s trump any phallic symbol someone may want to show off. Although poping this thing up in the terrorist's back yard takes some big ones. In case no one noticed they don't seem to mind blowing stuff up on their own soil as well.

I wonder what that special use equipment is. Since they don't have much of a military, I wonder if some other country is using it to intercept communications. Some years ago down in San Francisco in one of the seedier sides of town there was an old building that was a couple of stories higher than the rest. No one seemed to know who was using the upper stories or for what but there were dish antennas located all over the area. Finally they got a warrant and when they went in they found a very good and functional Russian spy post that had all the latest equipment installed on those two floors and were listening in to all the communications in the b\Bay Area and as far South as Los Angles.

You get yours free!!! I must be doing something wrong. They used to have a guy drive around up here and any place he saw a satellite dish he would stop and ask for proof that you actually paid for it. I think that was stopped because of trespassing issues. Whatever happened, it isn't done any more.

I pay for mine, but I would still tell him to get off my property.

John,
This was back when we first started getting satellite service around here and then cable company was fighting it every way from Sunday. He never stopped at my place but I saw him stop at another house down the street. What made it so ridiculous was that they have your address on all of their accounts and if they wanted a check all he had to do was look at the address and see if it was on the list. I was never sure it wasn't some guy hired by the cable company that was here then anyway. When I called the cable company and told them to disconnect my service and that I had already disconnected their Co-Ax cable on the l pole as it came down to the one that I put in myself and they could have theirs but to leave mine alone, they told me that in three days they had had over 600 people call in and leave them. Their service was lousy and the channels you could get were just talk or political crap and since they were the only game in town they refused to put anything else on.

Yea I would tell them the same. Of course if he saw mine that would mean he was in my back yard and likely the conversation would be more along the lines of "GET YOUR DOG OFF OF ME".
