Default Wow, . . Tough Action from Australia in the news

Prime Minister Kevin Rudd - Australia

Muslims who want to live under Islamic Sharia law were told on Wednesday to get out of Australia, as the government targeted radicals in a bid to head off potential terror attacks.

Separately, Howard angered some Australian Muslims on Wednesday by saying he supported spy agencies monitoring the nation's mosques.

Quote: 'IMMIGRANTS, NOT AUSTRALIANS, MUST ADAPT. Take It Or Leave It. I am tired of this nation worrying about whether we are offending some individual or their culture. Since the terrorist attacks on Bali, we have experienced a surge in patriotism by the majority of Australians.'

'This culture has been developed over two centuries of struggles, trials and victories by millions of men and women who have sought freedom. We speak mainly ENGLISH, not Spanish, Lebanese, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, or any other language. Therefore, if you wish to become part of our society, learn the language!'

'Most Australians believe in God. This is not some Christian, right wing, political push, but a fact, because Christian men and women, on Christian principles, founded this nation, and this is clearly documented. It is certainly appropriate to display it on the walls of our schools. If God offends you, then I suggest you consider another part of the world as your new home, because God is part of our culture.'

'We will accept your beliefs, and will not question why. All we ask is that you accept ours, and live in harmony and peaceful enjoyment with us.'

'This is OUR COUNTRY, OUR LAND, and OUR LIFESTYLE, and we will allow you every opportunity to enjoy all this... but, once you are done complaining, whining, and griping about Our Flag, Our Pledge, Our Christian beliefs, or Our Way of Life, I highly encourage you take advantage of one other great Australian freedom:

'THE RIGHT TO LEAVE'.'

'If you aren't happy here, then LEAVE. We didn't force you to come here. You asked to be here. So, accept the country YOU accepted.'

An old misleading story.

Well if it wasn't a speech it should be. E Pluribis Unum is a great American value. Yeah I know it was in the land down under, it needs to be given here.

I duno if little Johnny Howard said that and no one here understands Ruddspeak anyway so we wouldn't know WTF Kev says. Australians are a very easy going nation and will pretty well tolerate most things to a point and give anyone a fair go, but the person given that fair go must reciprocate and make some attempt to assimilate and adopt the nations culture. What we need is to get back to some common sense, cut the politically correct crap back a notch or two and toughen the f up. It's got to he stage where a lot of normal Australians cringe at the thought of 'redneck' type behaviour hyjacking celebrations like Australia Day in the guise of patriotism. I'll get down before I fall off my beer carton.

We need that attitude in this country. If you move to one of their countries they sure don't change the laws and rules to fit your way of life. I believe that any person no matter who or from where who moves to another country should adapt their way of life.

While serving in the Air Force, I was stationed in Germany for five years. My family lived in an apartment in a large home owned by a German family. Now admittedly, I did not choose to go to Germany and I was not particularly interested in adopting their culture and customs. But even if I had decided to live there permanently, it would have been hard for me to abandon many of my American ways for the German ways. For example, none of the stores were open after 6 PM on weekdays or after 1 PM on Saturday except for one Saturday per month. None of the stores were open on Sundays. It made it very difficult for me to shop for much more than food in the very small village where I lived. I didn't like the store hours and would have complained even if I decided it was in my family's interest to live there permanently. If I could have lobbied to change the laws to allow longer store hours, I would have.

My point is that it is ridiculous to expect immigrants to immediately abandon the culture in which they were raised just because they decide to live in another country. They will do what each of us would do in the same circumstances. They will keep the old practices that bring them comfort while adopting the new practices that make their lives easier, and complainng about the new practices that make their lives harder. Over a few generations, most will integrate fully into the local culture.

That isn't what we are talking about. We are talking about the country changing its ways to accommodate new immigrants. I spent far to long in Korea, not by my choice either, but I did manage to learn enough of their language and customs to not tick anyone off. Just because I move to another country I don't expect them to change the country to fit my wants. I don't think it is ridiculous at all for them to adapt to the countries ways that they move to. They can keep their ways as many here do, and still learn the ways of the country instead of demanding that the country change its ways to fit theirs.

Ron,

Let me restate my point. I'm saying that if I lived in Germany, I would try to change its laws to make parts of it more like what I learned to like about the USA. I believe most people would do the same. And being a believer in The Golden Rule, I find it hard to fault other people for doing what I would do if I were in their shoes.

Tommy,

My bad. I misread your post and apologize for that. I don't fault people for hanging onto their traditional values. What I object to is wanting the country they move into to change its ways and values to fit theirs.

I dunno, I find these posts enlightening. It's a peek into the mind of those who apparently believe everything the internet sends their way, no matter how absurd or self-contradictory, and how resistant that mindset is to even the quickest search for a validation of the claim.

All such people are closet Muslim homosexuals who vote Democrat... I'm sure I saw something in my inbox that stated that as a fact.

This is indeed pure old crap and a waste of space.

Quote:
...it should be noted that the message is now quite outdated. Versions of the email began circulating back in 2005. Since then, there has been a change of government in Australia. The Howard Government was resoundingly defeated in November 2007 and the current Australian Prime Minister is Labor's Kevin Rudd. However, the message contains no date and some non-Australian recipients may therefore wrongly assume that it refers to current events rather than events that occurred several years

None of the comments or opinions included in the message have any connection whatsoever with Kevin Rudd or his Government.
What's sadder than posting this crap here is the folks who feel compelled to keep forwarding it to their friends.

Or posting it to the lounge...

And why is it that the bulk of it is anti Obama/DNC? Are neo-cons more susceptible to this crap than libs, or is this just a function of the lib/con population around here?

You can plot it as a function of intelligence and gullibility, from my observations.
