I know that most Americans don't give a hoot about hockey but up here, it is closer to religion than to just a sport. Here is a link to a little tune on You Tube summerizing the recent men's Olympic Hockey.

On the other hand you could at least admit that Canada has the best hockey teams (both men and women) in the world.

Well, we people in Detroit are fine with half of our team playing the other half of our team to get both the silver AND gold.

Just because they walked across the street and entered Canada, does not mean they are NOT RED WINGS!

You all just rented them for a couple of weeks.

What's hockey? It is a form of football on ice that they use sticks to beat each other with.

I don't even understand all of the rules, but I did watch the games and even though the U.S. lost, I thought both teams played well. And don't forget the U.S. team did beat Canada in an earlier round. But since Canada invented Hockey I guess it is fitting they should win.

tru, you have it backwards. Those "Red Wings" are just on loan, picking up lots of US$ before coming back to Canada.

1715, You probably prefer watching girls high school basketball.

All joking aside, I have never been able to understand why hockey has never caught on in the US, except for the traditional markets.

Ron, they only beat each other with the sticks so that they can get on the evening news.

Both the US and Canada had great teams and both deserved to win, but only one can.

It was one of the following:

The Canadian Russian Hockey Players vs. the American Russian Hockey Players. In this scenario the Russians got what was left over.

or

The Canadian Canadian NFL players vs. the American Canadian NFL players.

or

The Stanley Cup without fights.

No matter what it was the best hockey game I ever saw.

I violently disagree with professionals playing in olympic sports. All of the other countries sent amateurs to play. It should be that way. Same for basketball.

I absolutely agree 100% but I would change the word violently to vehemently, especially since we are talking about hockey.

It isn't fair to all of the other athletes who spend many years training for this event. They do not get paid (OK they make a bundle if they win gold). They are there for the competition and the glory if they win, while the pros make millions and receive all of the attention.

I was also disappointed that they used the NHL size rink instead of the international size surface in Vancouver. The players are so big and so fast today that the NHL surface just seems too small.

NFL Football is the dominant sport in the U.S. Soccer has tried to break into the market, but they are having a tough time. I guess you watch what you were raised watching. Being born and raised in San Diego I did not watch any hockey, and soccer was for the kids that their parents would not let them play a violent sport like football.

1715, When I was younger, I played baseball, football, and hockey. I continued to play hockey until some of my tendons couldn't take it any more. I cannot straighten my right arm so I have permanent damage it there.

Quite honestly, I don't have the same interest in pro sports that I used to have. The whole free agency thing has turned me off combined with the owners, the players, and the management that now have virtually no respect for the fans. It has always been a business but now the sport has really taken a back seat to the money. Players have no allegiance to their team and vice versa but the fans are supposed to continue forking out the $$$.

The best athletes in the known world were at the original Olympic , THE BEST , not amateurs . World cup Soccer , the best . If your good at hockey in Canada your semi-pro pretty young , we would have to send the pee-wee , or over 40's players . We invented basketball to by the way , sorta .

I believe that the first recorded game of basketball took place at McGill University in Montreal. The NHL has players from many nations now whereas 25 or 30 years ago, it was made up almost exclusively with Canadian players.

In 1971 I watched a fight between the Montreal Canadiens and the Toronto Maple Leafs, and right in the middle of it, a hockey game broke out.
