Post Internet Threat To Rare Species

Just saw this and thought it was kind of interesting. But this was going on long before the Internet was opened to the public, just not as much and as easy.

See I hate articles like this. The INTERNET is no more responsible for the death of an endangered species than a GUN is the cause of someone's shooting death. It is the people that are responsible and the people who cause it.

FWB,

I don't remember exactly where it was, but I saw once some time ago where they had arrested some people for selling some kind of exotic frog or something that is illegal in the US. But as Joe said, the Internet is not the cause of this. It was going on long before the Internet was ever opened to public use. I suppose there may be places that you can order these things, but I have never looked for them.

So what impact do you think the internet (and cellular phones) has had on international terrorism?

Think Osama Bin Hidin' would be able to command the troops without either?

Yes I do. Both are a great help to him, but neither are the CAUSE of terrorism. Terrorism was around before phones and the internet was available. I remember as a kid watching where terrorists hijacked a plane and were holding Americans hostage. This was done without cell phones and internet. Now these devices may make it easier to communicate changes to avoid capture or for spreading their "Message", but they are not the CAUSE of the act. Just like a GUN does not kill people, a car does not speed, a ski mask does not rob a bank, etc... It is the people who do the act. Osama uses the cell phones and the internet as a TOOL no doubt but they are not the cause of the terrorism. Cars are just a tool to go faster than horse and carriage, which was a tool to go faster than walking. If you go faster than the law allows, car is not the cause of it, it is merely the tool YOU used to break the law.

Like Ron said in the first paragraph..."...just not as much and as easy."

The internet is just tool that is easy to use, non- regulated, with very little control of how it's used and operated. Information that is not true or a down right disceptive lie is often thought to be true and products by any name are fair game, in this case the product appears to be the game.

Bill,

You are so right about that. Just look at all of the porn that you can sit at home and view. The Internet didn't create that, it just made it easier for people who normally wouldn't be in a city or place where a lot of it was available to now watch it or even join groups. To blame the Internet for about anything is not right. It does contribute to many things, but they already existed for the most part and were just not so easy to access or you didn't hear as much about them. Just pick any word and Google it and look at the pages of links that you will get.

Oh. just to clarify, I used Porn as an example, not to show that I look at it. There is to much of the real stuff around to spend time on a computer looking at it. Heck, we even have an Adult Book Store here.
