Default National Geographic and the Appalachian Trail

Anybody see that show? Wow! I do not live far from the trail and have always dreamed about doing it. What a great show. Hope you get to watch it some time.

Mike

I missed it Mike. Which channel was it on? Maybe I can catch a rerun.

Mike .... I used to live inner the Blue Ridge Mountains and near the trail . If you ever get a chance to hike any portion of it .... do it !! The trail is well marked and there are "camp sites " ( wide areas to camp and some leantos (sp?) about every 10 miles .... first come , first served . It can be a great weekender or longer if you have the time . Be advised ... you will not be near any 7 - 11`s .

I never have had the opportunity, but I grew up in Nebraska right where the Oregon Trail crossed the Platte River. There was a split in the river that later came back together forming a large island in the river. The French first call it Le Grande Isle. It make a good cross point because they could cross 1/2 the river, camp for the night and cross the other 1/2 in the morning. Over time a settlement with supplies sprung up there and after constant flooding in the spring, the town was moved a few miles north and became known as Grand Island Nebraska. (I was born in Grand Island) If you are ever in the area, go to Stuhr Museum. You wont regret it.
