Pirates Attack Wrong Ship
Their eyesight must be getting bad as this is the 2nd warship they have attacked in the past week or so.

I heard that and cracked up laughing. Keystone Pirates.
They are being held on the ship. That means they are getting three squares a day for a week or so. Given the state of their country I guess I don't see anything wrong with that. They should swab the decks or something though. Leg irons with the ball and chain that was on the Pawn show the other night would keep them from escaping

Bal and chain? Just a few lengths of anchor chain and see how well they can swim.

Or use the cartoon of them sending a terrorist home from an aircraft carrier. Put them in a car and then attach it to the catapult and launch it.

I know this is not PC, but if we take all capturerd pirates for the next three months and "eliminated" them, there would be no more piracy. Hell we sacrificed thousands of innocent japanese civilians in Hiroshima for "the greater good" of WWII.
Take out all pirates for three months and there will be no more problem. The way it is now we just let them all go scott free. We don't even detain most of them. Why would they not be pirates. They have NOTHING to lose.
(Being the person that I am, I would not personally do it, but IT WOULD WORK)

There are old pirates and there are bold pirates. But there are no old, bold pirates!!
OK, the original was Pilots not pirates.
Reminds me. Watched a program about snipers on the military channel. The young sniper in Iraq commented to his older NCO spotter that the insurgents were surprisingly fast on their feet. The old NCO said, "Yeah, we ran out of slow ones a couple of years ago!!"

From the article:
"Last May, pirates chased a U.S. Navy warship and fired small arms at it. The ship, which had recently served as a prison for captured pirates, increased speed and evaded the attack."
This done not sound good...

Yeah, there must have been some sort of ROE issue there. That pirate ship should be at the bottom of the ocean.

Simple, force wasn't needed or required. A bit of evasion goes a long way. We weren't scared, just saw no need to take human lives at that instance. We get enough bad PR 'cause we HAVE TO do certain things.
I for one think they did the smart thing.

Hit the Nail on the Head. I was on a Submarine in the Navy and while we were transiting on the surface near coastal waters, we were approached by a "Chinese Merchant Ship" who failed to head warnings to steer clear. As it got closer a deck gun was revealed and we realized we were dealing with Pirates disguising themselves as merchants. We changed course and sped up easily outrunning them. No shots were fired. Similar situation with another Sub but the pirates shot at them and put a hole in the Sail (Large vertical part you see) but did not puncture the hull. That sub submerged, came around behind and sank the pirates. Surfaced and searched for survivors who then became prisoners.

If they are positively identified as pirates and are attacking a navy ship (or any other ship for that matter), I would much prefer we just sink them. They are a real problem in that part of the world and we need to increase their cost of doing business wherever we can.
I don't see how sinking a pirate ship that is actually firing on you generates bad PR. The only way I see bad PR is if you harm innocent people, fire on ships before being fired upon, etc. No way that is going to be a problem here.

Yup, reading is enlightening.
Might be helpful if we tend to trust our folks to do the right thing in their own way.

Ed,
I saw an article a day or so ago where the US Navy had picked up some more of those pirates. Didn't they used to hang them back in the days of sailing ships? I think they should just sink their boats and leave them to swim back to port.

If they'd "insert" some .50 lead weights in the pirates, the swim would be more of a challenge.
