Default If one waits long enough....... !

My first visit to this thread, I had to tell someone!My daughter asked me to go to her "N-laws" residence for years. Seems her Father N Law had a hobby that started in the late 50's, He never built a car of any type, his sole hobby was collecting BB Hi-Preformance motors and trannys- all GM's.

This gentlemen passed away almost a year ago and I told her I would come down and try to help her Mother N Law separate stuff out so she could sell for the proper amounts. (Now keep in mind I had no Idea of what he had collected over the years just that he had motors etc.)

Last week I finally made it to THREE of his garages...I walked into Heaven or a 16 year olds wet dream! Blocks, tranny's, tools, tool boxes, headers, and on and on and on, and on.

What I could get to:
Three 454 4-Bolt main blocks
Three 4-bolt main 427's
Two 4 bolt main 396's
THREE 409'S
Multiple Muncie 4spd's with 31 splines (Rock Crushers?)
One absolute complete 350 (Smog motor) I think this had come out of his mid 70's chevy p/u which has been in storage for close to 30 years! (MINE!)

And the list goes on and on! Going back to load up everything, bring it to my shop in May, do what is necessary for every motor, assemble and start to sell them for the Mother N Law!

That is fantastic. I always read about things like that. Congratulations and I can imagine the feeling of walking into those garages and finding all of that stuff.

I didn't mention them at first, thinking they were no big deal! Couldn't figure out what "they' were. Who ever heard of a Chevy. 302!?

Damnnnn, I just found out it was the first OEM STROKED MOTORS- Z-28's! (68's - 69's ?) Somebody please pinch me!

I assure you I will take pictures of everything when I go back. I was so thrilled over the 409's those were the only ones I photographed!

My first new car was a 67 Z28 302. A hell of an engine. Traded it in for chump change on a new 70 Hemi Cuda. I was brilliant at picking the right cars to buy and dumb as a box of rocks when selling them.

First generation Z-28 was one of the best things to come out of Detroit in the 60s. The 70 1/2 second generation (350ci) was easier to smog and live with (hyd cam).

Dan...what were you thinking? (like a Hemi Cuda is so bad to have )

If memory serves [and sadly it does] I got $1300 for the Z, trading it in on the Cuda. $1300., That should make everyone on this board cry with me. [Or laugh at me]
On the road, that 302 would "DUST" the Cuda. Only in the 1/4 was the Cuda impressive [and then it was QUITE impressive]. But cornering, braking, mid-range response, feel, all were way in the Z's favor. But I did get to show off the Cuda a lot more in gas stations!!! Remember the fuel crisis. I had to leave the Cuda at a gas station many blocks from home EVERY night and walk home just so the car could get filled up EACH night in violation of the odd/even gas fill rules.

Who wants to start the blind bidding? I found four 2x4 OEM intakes to boot, need to figure out what motor gets what. I think one was for one of the 409's? Cams laying everywhere, instead of finding which one goes where, think I will get the factory specs out for these and just replace with OEM. All motors but one 409 (For my Daughters 1945 1 ton truck! Eldebrock Aluminum heads for this one!) will be put back as OEM as possible.

I'm still Giddy....now if I can find the barn where the cars have been stored ?

Default GM Muscle Motors!

An update:
Right now, confirmed 302'S, 350 Hi-Po motors, 348's, 396's, 409's, 427's, 454's.
Multiples of each motor. Factory OEM Aluminum intakes for numerous motors. (Most motors have 4-Bolt Mains!)

The motors and related parts plus all the tools etc., will be in my shop in Pentwater on the 16th of May. All motors and related Heads will be cleaned. No machine work on any motor has been done! None will be done. The motors will be available for inspection for one week then bids will be taken for three days for an entire package. A Silent reserve is held in private.

Bring your own GM books and Mic's. I think the casting numbers and what they tell you will be rather eye opening.

Anyway the motors and parts and all the tools will be at Pentwater (Mi) on the 16th. Hopefully by the 17th everything will be somewhat organized sitting in my shop. Numbering/organization will start that day. I plan on having every motor tagged and ID'd by then

Il., Ontario, and TEXAS so far are scheduled to come in on that Saturday for "a look see". Seems like everyone I talk to has a hell of a lot more experience in these motors than I do!

I plan on taking short Video's of all the parts before we load up, and then once again when I have a chance to get everything laid out in my shop. Unfortunately I WILL NOT have the motors magna fluxed. Closest shop I can find to do that is in Chicago! Aint gonna happen.

I have also been told not to have the blocks cleaned up, the buyers - bidders are going to want to see them "As is." Hmmm ??????

I don't know, the one motor on the floor (396-375 HP) in the photos looks like is was used in a Dune Buggy as a "mudder!"

Pictures / videos will be coming shortly after the 17th.

Getting organized- at least somewhat!
Everything is know my shop in Pentwater, 409's are NOT included! The motors are now for sale, we have a lot of the 60's GM Muscle motors rom a very special GM Aluminum Intake-305, 427's, 396's, 454's, one GM 455, several 350's. Most of these motored are Four Bolt mains. You can see full filmed on my Y0u Tube under "DV447".
Money out of the sale will go the widower.
