Cars That Flopped But Are Now Collectibles
I knew the Edsel was really gaining in value but a couple of the others were surprises. Guess I need to see if the guy down the street will sell the old Edsel he has had parked there for the past 20 years.

To me, any car that your mother drove you to school in was a flop. What happened ?

In 1964-65 when Muscle Cars when being brought to life and my High School parking lot was full of new 427 Galaxies,396 Chevelles and Impalas,GTO's,Buick GS's,4-4-2's (Hey Warren !) and the Mustangs....
I drove a '58 VW Beetle and Tommy Lee Jones drove the...
BMW Isetta (1955-62)
Value: $30,000 - $60,000
An early example of a microcar, or a city car, the Isetta fared even less well in the U.S. market than the Smart ForTwo, a modern example, has in recent years.
The ultra-tiny Isetta was actually a big hit in post-war Europe, where it fit the need for ultracheap transportation that could run on narrow roads using very little fuel. In the United States, however, it was bust.
That only makes it more desirable today. For many buyers, the Isetta is a sort of "comic relief" in their collection of otherwise fine cars, Hagerty said."
We were regulated to the far end of the lot.
Have to say it was always fun watching him get in & out of that tiny car.

Buzz,
Wasn't that those aluminum cars that had skinny wire wheels and kept breaking parts and frames at times?

I recall standing by a Shelby Cobra in Hollywood at a crosswalk. The windshield and mirror were shaking so bad at idle I thought...what a pile of crap..it's going to shake apart.
It was the coolest thing I ever saw.

Remember the Fire Sale they had when he went out of business. I used to have one of the original lists of cars and parts they were going to sell and some of the stuff they almost had to give away. And I skipped buying one of them then.
