Default The Art of Driving in the Rain

I can't really read, but I love to listen to books as I drive. This one by Garth Stein is fabulous! It is a story about an excellent semi-professional driver (like anyone with a Cobra thinks they might be) as told through his dog. The dog is brilliant. Guarantee you will love this book. Get the CDs at the library and listen to it. The voice of the dog is great. No talk of Cobras in this book, but that doesn't distract from the story....

Oh Funny, I told you I can't read. The book is the Art of Racing in the Rain. Too Funny! I'm an idiot!

This book is excellent. It has been on the best seller lists (local and national) for over a year. A lot of readers who have no interest in motor sports are gushing over the "message" that is woven into the tale. Excellent read!

I can't convince my wife to read it. She says it's about cars. I told her it isn't. Then she said she'd read reviews and was afraid she'd cry.

It is a brilliant book with quite a twist. I hope some day it will be made into a movie.

Tony, tell her the whole point of outstanding books is to evoke emotion. Promise to have a bottle of wine ready to go when she finishes the book...and promise to listen to everything she has to say about the story. The listening part alone should advance the relationship to Long's Peak heights!

She doesn't drink so that won't help.

It's been a year or more since I read it. I remember being angry at some of the shenanigans. I don't want to give the story away.

I haven't viewed my dog the same way, since reading it.
The dog's interpretation of our actions, is very thought provoking.

Hey Maurice, but isn't it really a person's interpretation of a dog's interpretation of a person's actions?

I have to admit I immensely enjoyed the first half of this book. Alas, I thought the second half degenerated into a "chick flick."

It is worth reading in spite of that.

Actually, I meant it was the author's interpretation of the dog's interpretation, etc, etc. But it's all good. Damn them zebras anyway.

Just to confuse the readership; Garth Stein has written a successor book to "The Art Of Racing in the Rain." The new book will be released on May 3rd...the title is "Racing in the Rain." Barnes and Noble doesn't have much detail, but the cover suggests that the Dog returns for further insight into the human condition. (I've always wanted to use that phrase.) Perhaps the pooch has some insight into buying high performance 15" tires that perform well on dry and wet pavement?

I now know for sure, that when I look into my dogs eye's...there is a human in there that can't get out. It makes me feel really good that my dog Hoagie (the Golden) understands what I tell him and he would love to tell me a lot of stuff.
Great book.
