Post Went For A Drive

Well it has been in the high 80s the past couple of days so I took the 69 out for a drive as it was so nice. Here are some pictures that I took. The first one is of the 3 Shastas. The 2nd one of of Mt. Shasta, and the last one is of the 69 Cobra with then snow behind it.

It was a great day John and there was no haze at all in the valley. They have let the lake down some as you can see by the line around the top but they still have a lot of snow in the mountains to melt and come down and also there is a chance of more rain.

John,

It is amazing at the amount of rain we got here this Winter in one month. They say it is the most we have had in the past 16 years and there is still a lot of snow to melt and come down, plus they are predicting more rain from time to time. Probably about the week of the big car show. One year it snowed when they had the show.

Steve,

Everything is really nice and green now, but when the heat hits I fear we may have a really bad fire season. All of this rain has really made the brush grow and it will dry out fast when the sun starts getting hot. And this manzanita burns like you wouldn't believe and almost anything can set it off once it gets dry.

Yea, that is right. You can't win for loosing. But it sure is nise while the weather holds out and the heat holds back a while.

At least there is water in the lake if they need the air lifts again this year.

No fires allowed until after the first week of August.

I'm going to be passing through there on my way to Lake Tahoe and don't want to smell any smoke unless it's from my tires.

Great pictures Ron. It is nice to see a good amount of water in that lake. I can remember the pictures you posted last year (or was it 2 years ago?) where the level was so very very low.

I managed to get my '66 Mustang out for a quick 1/2 hour spin on Sunday but the Cobra is still sitting quietly in the garage waiting for the warmer weather and cleaner streets. There is still quite a bit of sand and various debris on the streets left over after the snow melted. Of course there are also lots of pot holes that have not yet been repaired. I doubt that the Cobra will be out before May 1st.

Wayne,

Nice to hear from you. It won't be long until you can get the Cobra out. Around here they don't ever fill in pot holes. They are what you try to drive in as the small chunks of pavement left are really rough.

Thanks for the great pictures, and glad to see the lake full again. I always laugh when folks complain ..like the world is coming to an end because were in a drought, or some other stupid sitiuation.
Spring is great everywhere...enjoy.

Bob,

Are they having to let water out of Folsom? They have let out about 20' here expecting a lot of water from the snow pack when it melts. I haven't been to Folsom since the 70s when I had to go work on a problem down there and I went out to the lake for a visit. My Father was a foreman on the concrete crew that helped build the dam. I went to Folsom High School for a short time. Also visited Folsom Prison numerous times as I got to know a couple of the guards and found it sort of fascinating in a morbid way. Nothing ever looked more fore-long to me than seeing those gray walls early in the morning all wet with the fog.

Bob,

You wash your car with water!! Right now my Comet which I park under the car port is just covered with yellow pollen and it looks like runny sh** with the water mixed in from these showers. But it is useless to wash it until all of this pollen is through falling. My driveway has yellow streaks in it where the water washed the pollen along side where it was running and it looks as if I had taken yellow paint and made those strips. Also people with sinus problems are really having a hard time.

We have the same problem with pollen here. My car was looking a greenish yellow until this last round of storms on Tuesday. We got enough rain to wash the pollen off, but now it is streaked and water spotted. At least it looks red again though.

Jams,

Thanks for the compliment.

Joe,

It rained here most of the day yesterday and my car really looks bad. The rain doesn't wash that yellow pollen off, it just makes long streaks on the car. And my driveway looks as if I had painted yellow streaks on it. Even the road has a lot of yellow on it, so I guess this is going to be a bad year for pollen.
