That is almost how I describe it - I call mine "4 harleys". In fact that could be a good license plate. The reference is about the sound the engine makes - it's 4 HD V-Twins.
The motorcycle reference is a pretty good comparison - you drive both under somewhat similar conditions and circumstances. Few people will knowingly take either into a rainstorm.

I carry a car cover in the trunk in case a rainstorm comes up unexpectedly.
During times of inclement weather (or, when the Cobra isn't running or registered), I drive a 1998 Honda Accord with a VTEC V-6. It has over 200,000 miles, gets 34 MPG, never uses any oil between changes (5,000 mile intervals), runs like a top, and has pretty spirited performance for a factory stock car.
I am planning an 870 mile (one way) trip soon.....hoping to be able to make it in the Cobra.
That brings to mind a question.....I've never driven the Cobra any further than 200 miles in a single day. I'd like to know what the longest distance people have ever driven their Cobras on the road in a single day. I'm use to making 600 to 700 miles a day in the Honda, but I doubt that I can tolerate that much in the Cobra. The buffeting from the wind (even with the wind wings) seems to tire one out easily!

Try ear plugs. I used to carry a few sets in my motorcycle jacket. I would wear them on the highway. Made a huge difference. Saves your hearing and you won't tire so quick.

My daily driver is a 1999 Acura 3.2TL with 216,000 miles on it. It's been a great car.

A big Chinese bus on account I gotta pick up some of the employees on my way to work. When in Sun City West its a Dodge Durango bought new in 2000, got 10,000 miles on it, go figure, I get to drive it twice a year for two weeks at a time.

my daily is a VW touareg diesel. it's not very sporty, but it pulls like a freight train.
My buddy has a M6 convertible that he uses as a DD. fast, handles awesome, and sounds great. They can be found used for somewhat a "reasonable" price.

When on the highway, I wear headphone style hearing protectors. People look at me and laugh. I don't care, I already have a "noise notch" type of hearing impairment from driving an Allis Chalmers turbocharged tractor for ONE DAY, happened when I was 18 and I'm now 62. I've had ringing in my ears every day since. I let them laugh.....I can still hear the sidepipes, even better b/c the buffeting of the wind is reduced by the "earmuffs".
I also carry a set of ear plugs in the glove-box, use them occasionally. I tried both at the same time and didn't hear any difference from what I heard with the "earmuffs" alone.
In terms of effectiveness:
Best--headphone style hearing protectors (got 'em at Ace Hardware), with or without the ear plugs.
Worst...ear plugs only (the only benefit is you don't get made fun of b/c you are wearing headphone-style hearing protectors).
I keep wondering if a set of Bose Noise Canceling headphones might really be the trick?
I have a vested interest in keeping what hearing I have left....I'm an amateur musician and would like to be able to hear music, my own or that of others.
Cheers from Dugly!

I have Two Jeep Wranglers and a 2500HD Diesel, but my Wrangler Sport usually is the vehicle I use daily. I bought the Jeep Rubicon to use as a daily driver, but after dumping a bunch of money into it I would rather use it more on the trail than as a daily driver. We have a TDI VW that we use on trips, but I am more of a truck / Jeep guy. I have not had a car as a daily driver in years.

I'm ready to go back to a truck 4X4 myself. I posted my Jeep SRT8 on craigslist, once it sells I'm shopping for a supercab F150. Or perhaps a Silverado SS.
