I understand that 'appreciated' part, but given all the advertisements how do you come up with the 'needed' part, other than to pay moderators?

I am just a member here just like you are. I have no inside info on this subject.
I gave you my opinion on this matter. Take it or leave it,I don't care.
I gave because I wanted to. Without a need of a detailed explanation of exactly why they want it and exactly what they are going to do with it.
Maybe I just have a thing for rotating gold stars.
If you don't want to give, don't. Pretty simple.
I would suggest you PM Brent,Jamo or CW if you require more insight in this matter.
BTW - I like your jokes in the Joke section.

How did you come up with the idea that we are paid anything? Why would you say something like that?

Jamo,
The "Be A CC Contributor" page says this:
Thank you for considering the various different contribution methods at Club Cobra. While each provide more or otherwise enhanced features, the real purpose is to show support for the site and the moderators. The money will be utilized to support the monthly costs, long term expenses, and sharing with the moderator staff. We appreciate the support! As a contributor, you'll get an icon by your name in every post you make showing your contribution. Premier = Gold Star = Silver Star =
So I can understand how he might think this was a way of paying you. However, I'm sure both your time and Ron's time are worth a lot more than anything you might get out of the contributor funds. And that you are moderators purely out of a passion for the hobby.
Considering that "sharing with the moderator staff" is last on the list, I suspect that you, Ron and Brent will probably use that sometime to have a few beers.

I didn't state that you are currently paid anything, but here's some news that will make you happy next year.....

After all, an attorney working for free can get ugly at times - it's best to pay them. Have a nice new year.

392cobra - well, your posts here generally have insight attached so I was just checking to see what you knew that I didn't know. I'm a bottomline numbers guy.
Thanks for the positive feedback on the jokes thread. I've come to believe that in the end humor is one of the most important things in life, so a daily dose seems appropriate - when I can find it.

Well, to begin with...
1. I had nothing to do with any of the posting or text in the contribution info, so thanks for pointing that out. Long timers might have thought to ask directly in a PM or email since they knew we weren't compensated in the past (I know I've made that clear several times, as have Brent and Ron).
2. I have not received any compensation as a moderator, other than a few folks b!tching and a few saying thanks. Brent has given a few small remeberances over the years (not annually) which I appreciate as a gift from a friend. One of these was a large poster from a pic he took of me running at Fernley...one of the bestest car things I have since it came from him lugging 500 lbs of camera gear around the track. I make the same financial contributions annually as the rest of you that do.
3. I would and will decline any financial compensation, if offered, in the future.
You have now heard it from the horse's mouth (or ass, as perceptions may differ). I am not involved nor do I know anything further about the contribution suggestions (which are most certainly not uncommon around the web), so please do not ask. Ultimately, whether you contribute or not is entirely up to you...many of you have been here for quite a long time and have never made a contribution, so please don't act like the contribution suggestions offer you some new excuse for not having done so. For others, like myself (both before and after becoming a moderator) who have found this place to be one of the very best places to share information about the business, hobby and technical aspects of a particular marque (and I most certainly mean compared to all others...I have been a member of many whether it's watches, cars or whatever), the financial contributions we have made pale in comparison to what we have taken away.
This isn't some 501(c)(3) or a way to help starving penguins...it's a freeking car site where you can pay as much as you want or nothing. If you think you have some great accounting abilities, why don't you contact Brent directly instead of making some personal blogs about your analytical skills. Yes, rewards are offered at different levels. Same damn thing as your local PBS channel...god knows some of you probably send letters to the editor wondering out loud why the $100 level gets a DVD about Mongolians building their own houses out of yak crap, while the $50 level only gets a refrigerator magnet.
There...I've had my say. Thanks for your time.

Jamo,
As your (unpaid) counterpart on clubhotrod.com I could not have said it any better.
Thank you for the enormous amount of time you spend moderating this site. Thank you for keeping things in order. Thank you for removing the spam [posts before most ever realize they have been made. In short, THANK YOU from someone who knows exactly what happens behind the scenes.
Have a happy and a healthy new year.
Sincerely,
Bill S.
