Now that the keys have been found, I took some pictures of the inside of the trunk.

The trunk latch probably needs to be oiled or greased as when my dad tried to close the trunk it did not latch.

With 27 year old gas in the tank I think that might not be a good idea. I think you had mentioned dumping a bottle of Stabil in the gas tank in a text message to me.

I was thinking trying something simpler. Just trying to turn the crankshaft with a wrench to make sure the engine is not seized. I think that knowing that the engine is not seized should be sufficient information for someone wanting to buy the car to restore it.

From what I understand the engine should be turned clockwise.

The engine can be turned at the crankshaft using a socket wrench.

It turns, change the oil and filter, change the plugs and fuel filter, see if it will fire.

Worth more if it actually runs.

Bill,

I think the next thing I will try is to see if the tires will hold air. If they don't hold air that will make it difficult to get the car out of the garage.

I think I should also figure out how to pump out the gas tank before attempting to start the car or possibly bypass the gas tank and see if I can pull gas from a gas can instead.

Stan,

I saw your pm, so I have your contact information.

I don't think my mom has a clue what price to ask for the car. If you have an idea of what you would like to offer for the car send that to me in a PM. Both of my sisters and my father have been contacted by people who have an interest in the car, but have none of them have made offers yet. All of them are sort of waiting on what we figure out about the condition of the car.

There is a possibility that I may pursue Bill's advice to see if the car will start. However I will need to get approval from my mom first before attempting that, before spending any money on that and whether I would be trusted to attempt that myself or should I get a friend who is more mechanically inclined to help with that.

Hagerty says $9,100 - 25,500 depending upon condition. I'm guessing $10-15K for yours.

I'd like to see him get 10-15K, but I'm thinking that Hagerty, like KBB for later cars, is not as accurate as it should be. I say this as their algorithm factors in asking prices and not just auction selling prices in their process. That and what sells at auction does not always bode well for private sellers.

I'll leave it at that

The low end of that scale assumes that the car is a daily driver in "Fair" condition. That is not exactly what I have here.

Today I tried inflating the tires. I had my doubts since the outer rubber layer was split on some of the tires. The back tires filled easily, but the front tires were not cooperating. I tried jacking up the fronts so that the tire bead could get back on the rims and that worked.

I filled the back tires to 25 psi and the fronts to 30 psi.

The ratchet for the jack in the trunk did not work, but luckily I found a big adjustable wrench nearby.

The oil on the dipstick looked clear. I guess the oil must have just been changed right before the car was parked. The transmission fluid looks good too. However it looks like the coolant will need to be topped off.

Bill,

My mom does not trust me to try to fire the car up myself, but she is willing to pay for someone who knows what they are doing. So I asked our friend Dan if he could help. It looks like he might be available to try to fire up the car this week or next week.

At least one of the front brakes was frozen solid, so we could not push the car out of the garage. The brake pedal went to the floor, so the brakes need work.

We changed the battery, oil, fuel filter, condenser, points and spark plugs. We topped off the coolant and transmission fluid. We bypassed the 27 year old gas in the tank and hooked the fuel pump up to a gas can to run the engine.

All of the lights worked. The power steering worked. The transmission also worked.

Dan says that the car is solid and suggested that I ask for at least $7500 for it. Both Dan and Bill are encouraging me to buy the car out of the estate sale to keep it in the family...

Drain the gas and install new fuel $40
Get Dan to work on the brakes (or have it towed up to M&M in Pottstown) $250-$500
Take it down to "Detail Dave" (Complete professional detail in Phoenixville ) and have him give it his "MrMustang Special" $150
Have a "One Family Owner" car for you and the kids to go to cruise nights-Priceless

Just my continued 2 cents worth.

Well my daily driver, a Civic with 283K miles just died and I need something other than a 65 Mustang at the moment.

So the Mustang is on eBay.
