Kristen,

You were pretty close on the under car pipes. That is one of the big reasons the original 289 cars got your feet so hot. The exhaust ran right under that aluminum foot box. Then Excalibur found out that putting hot exhaust pipes with even hottet cat convertors right on the bottom of fiberglass cars wasn't a good idea. I have seen 3 of those that burned up and one got so hot it actually melted the steering wheel and all the metal in one area. Fiberglass can burn hot.

By the way, what do you think of all of our ideas to spruce Pepe up so you will stand out from the crowd?

Ron

I really like the idea of blue polka dots on white basecoat. Pink is not my color..... The pink pipes just don't do it for me. Keep working on it.... Our school colors are Guardsman blue, black, silver. I think that combo would work just fine. Guardsman blue body, black roll bar, stainless pipes. Not my first choice, of course, but it would work....

Kristen,

There were two 351 engines and two Boss engines. The 351 Cleveland has two easy ways to spot it. One it is wider and two the valve covers have 8 bolts instead of two. And there wrere three Boss Mustangs. Le mans rods are what my big block 69 Tornino has in them along with the rest of the low end stuff for that race. And the Y Block came after the X block. Sorry, couldn't help myself. Y block is associated with the 1956/1957 T-birds but they used them in the regular cars.
S/C cars acame about because there wasn't a lot of demand for the Comp 427s and they had to sell them some way. So add street legal tires, exhausts, etc and you have a Semi/Comp car. Only 60 actual completely comp. 427s were built. They have single four barells. Also 40 gallon fuel tanks for the two trips around the track.

Edley,

Now what was the mouse motor? And what did it grow into?

Ron
Ron: Mouse motor was Chevy's first modern OHV V-8 in 1955 model year. Started out as a 265, then 283, 327, 307,302, 350.

And dont the Windsors have SIX valve cover bolts? (Not TWO!)

No answers on the 221 V8? It WASNT a Y block! (239, 272, 292, and 312!)

And wasnt the Boss 351 a Cleveland with a mechanical cam as the main difference, with valve train pieces to complete the transition?

221 was the engine first used in the FIRST Cobra (CSX2000.)

Speaking of CSX 2000, I'm in Las Vegas and saw it for the first time today at Shelby. Pretty eye watering................

hi, there, Mike. you're up early! If I go to bed at 11, I'm up at 6. If I go to bed at 10, I'm up at 5. I was hoping to get a good "eight hours'' last night. Just can't seem to do it. Oh well.
Have a great day.
Congrats on getting into Votech. I know that means a lot to you. Did any of your other buddies get in? How about the 'less than bright' acquaintances in your shop class?
seeya,
kristen

Edley,

You are absolutely correct. I don't know why I put two bolts for the Windsor valve covers Mind fade at the moment. My story and I am sticking to it. The 221 was a very limited production which turned into the 260. I have seen just a few in some 1963 Fairlanes. By the time they really got geared up for production, Ford had already decided 260 was better than 221. And you are correct about the Boss 351. They are really hard to find now.

Now about the RAT motor. Where did that name come from?

Kristen- I just found out yesterday, so I will proably find out if any of my buddies got in. I know for a fact that "those" guys didn't get in.

Both of you are up bright and early, good morning.

Mike,

Boy you are up early. What brought this on. Let me guess, you had to rush to the bathroom.

Yes RAT Motor is for Chevys.

Kristen,

Don't put down the less than bright people in Mike's shop class. They helped him a lot. Just think how much better he looked when compared to them.

Mike,

Start getting up at 3AM. You will need to be used to this once you start the house and are going to school. Then you can study until 11PM the night before.

Ron, I don't think so. Actually, studying has a negitave effect on me, if I dont study, I ace tests like nothin, but if I do take the time to study, I fail. Go figure. My brain is like a sponge, I can remember things from very far back, but I can't remember what I had for supper or breakfast.

Kristen, yes one of my buds got in. As for those "other" kids, they didn't get into my class for VoTech, but they did get into Culinary (go figure, those kids don't mix with fire .)

Mike,

We do have something in common about the test thing. I never studied for tests. When I was in college and the semester tests were coming up, instead of cramming for two or three nights I would go to shows and races. I figured if I haden't learned it by then, I wasn't going to in a night or so.

Looks as if we are going to have some more rain here. It is getting quite dark and the forecast said rain all weekend. Therefore I was sure that since they forecast rain it would be sunny and in the 80s.

I have been looking at two Superformance Cobras for sale out here and they are both really nice. It is really tempting to buy one of them but I think I don't need another car to insure.

I was just looking in my Mustang Ford Trader magazine that I received today and there is another Superformance in it that is almost identical to the one that I was thinking of. I have seen several of them up here to have engines put in and other work done and I thought they were a well built and nice car. Not in the class of Shelby, Kirkham, or ERA, but above many of the others.

Oh yeah along with "mongoose" you know that one?

"mongoose" a "snake killer" a Chevy/Ford rivalry, sort of like who's got the "biggest" on the school yard--if you know what I mean

Ron ,I owned a SPF, very nice, well built, few problems. Sometimes I wish I still had it....but my pos '89 NAF 289 FIA has been twice as much fun(and headache on occasion) than my SPF ever was.

That's one example though it didn't fair well overall against the Cobras
