I AM THE MODERATOR OF THIS THREAD. NO NEED FOR THE BOSS TO SHOW UP HERE. IF ANY OF YOU CAUSE TROUBLE, YOU WILL BE BANNED FROM THE THREAD.

btw. gonna go get the paint and brush to start lettering the tires today!!! Don't have another school project til Tuesday. Of course, baseball tournament ALL weekend, and ballet recital on Saturday afternoon, but other than that.... oh, and hubby's b-day on Sunday. We were gonna go the the Ranger's game. Early game, and haven't gone in years. Now it depends on son's baseball tournament. oh yeah, encore presentation of ballet dance at church Sunday evening. Nah, not too busy this one!!!!

Kristen
littlest cobra girl home today. Hubby can babysit; I've got to go get paint! and teacher gifts (5) graduation gifts (6) bday gifts (2 left) 4 baby gifts are already done. I need a 'bonus' this month!!! good thing hubby ain't got a job, I need him to stay home and take care of the kids!

oh, and the doozy---- #1 son is 'supposed' to buy the food for a scout campout this weekend - for 25!!! Yeah, who do you think is gonna get that done- on Friday morning! Anything to get the moody boy out of the house for the weekend. I owe him a 'game' for xbox; one $50 game for each rank. He's now a 'star'. working on Life. then to Eagle. bribery often works....

have a great day! I'm OUTTA HERE!!

BE GOOD. I'M WATCHING.

Kristen,

What kind of paint are you going to get to use on your tire lettering? I have tried several kinds and they all tend to start cracking after a short time. Just wondered if you have found something better than what I have managed to come up with so far.

mornin', Ron. Gary, Gary, Gary. His wife took about 6 hours to paint the letters, about once a year. When I bought the car (March 04) they looked great. She had done them in the winter, so they were still 'new looking'. They looked great all thru the summer, fall, but started cracking in the winter. I think the cold weather doesn't help. Anyway, we've had many discussions about the paint pens, etc., and I actually painted one letter, the G, on one tire. It cracked the first time it drove out the driveway, like 10 feet. He swears by this paint at Michael's. I've got to email or call him to find out. Something about 'Titanium white' something or other. He posted it in a thread about lettering tires a couple of months ago, so I might just have to dig that thread up, if I can't get hold of him. Susan used a brush to apply it, let it dry, did another coat, or two. Any 'going out of the lines' is taken care of by outlining with a black sharpie when you're done. We'll see. I'll take pictures.
My car is neglected right now. Too much to do in May. Not a good month for me to get things done, for me. Kids stuff takes priority. gotta go!

Michael's a store. Got one over by one of the malls. Looks like Franks inside. So, they have this paint. Hhmmmm...

I thought I had a lot to do, yikes! Kristen, I'll bet your son loves to show up at the games with you driving the cobra.

Kristen,

Thanks. I have tried several of the so called latex super whites and such that are supposed to last and it takes longer to get it on that it lasts. One batch did last almost a week before I started seeing cracks in it and that was duing the Summer so I figured it wouldn't take our 110+ heat. We used to get a tire stick when I was a kid that you used to paint the white letters and it lasted great, but they don't seem to make them any more. Some places I have called remember them but said they haven't seen them for years. We have a couple of arts and craft stores around here and I may talk to them. I hate spending hours doing this and then it lasts maybe two days.

yes, Michael's is a craft type store. I'll give ol' Gary a buzz in a sec, and post it....

I took him to a game in the cobra once or twice... Always have to pop the hood in the parking lot so all the coach's can take a look.... one's a pretty good gear head, and was pretty impressed.
more in a minute.

tube of paint. 4" or so. Titanium White. Water based, acrylic. Small, red bristled brush. About 1/4". Hardest part is scrubbing off the sprayed on lettering. Time consuming painting the letters. (Gary- truly a gem) is coming over this evening to jack up car, put on stands, and take wheels off. Pretty cool guy, wouldn't you say??? Now if I could just get Susan to do the work....

Kristen,

Thanks,. I don't think we have a Michael's Craft Store around here but there are some others. Is there any special number or identification on that paint that I should look for? Sure is nice of Gary to come over and take the wheels off.
I am going to put a picture in this post that you should recognize. I will send you the whole article via e-mailas it is to big for a post.

well, bought the paint. just a tube, says titanium white, acrylic.... couldn't find a red tipped brush. Found red brushes with tan tips... anyway, Gary is color blind, (for real, not trying to hurt his feelings!) so, opted for a very blunt, square, smallish brush. Gotta go clean up the garage- lots of dust and leaves- wouldn't want Gary to see it soo messsy!!!!

went to the bank, officemax, Michael's, Jason's deli (sharing lunch with baby girl and hubby), didn't make it to Chili's for teacher gift cards. oh well. tomorrow!

Ron. trying to make me jealous??? I covet that car. Don't know why. I'm thinking in about 30 years, when there is no more oil to turn into fuel, the price of these cars will come way down, because all anybody will be able to do it put them in a museum for automobile curiosities!!! then, just maybe then the price will be under $100K, and I can afford it. who knows??? ya know???
shut em down..... took my cobra down to the track.....

Whew
Kristen you make me tired just reading your post. And I thought I was busy.

Gary (Susan) always had those tires looking brand new. I have seen them work for hours at atime on them.

Kristen,

Per the article that I e-mailed you, I think they are fools if they don't put the original body back on it since Shelby has it hanging in his museum. Then think what it would be worth. Maybe if all of us world wide took up a collection we could afford to buy it, and I would be happy to keep it safe in my garage.

Default speaking of CSX 2128.....

look what arrived by UPS today......

Ain't nothin' like the real thing..... but if ya cain't have the real thing, then 1/43 is good enough!!!!
I have been searching for this for 3 months! Marsh Models has absolutely discontinued this model, and man was it hard to find.
I am persistent if I am nothing else at all. (but we know I'm everything to everyone!!! )

and yes, Ron, they should put the original skin on, but if they don't, well at least they are somewhat together, at the museum. Now if it ever leaves the museum, and for instance, say it came to Texas, then the skin should come with it.

Kristen,

The model is very nice. I have looked through I don't know how many die cast books trying to locate one and no luck. So I guess I will have to settle for buying the original.

yea!!! Brent!!! not too far behind....

Wow. the tires/wheels are now off. The right rear is worn down past any tread!

I'll post a photo later. Gotta fix dinner. (hubby is taking cobra girl to ballet practice - for recital, so I guess it's ok..... )

Gary could hardly get the front left off. whack whack whack whack.... that's the one I had the flat in at Texas Motor Speedway. Guess the guy really wanted it on tight. So, now I have Gary's tie downs for trailer, and 4 stands. hmmm. he's gonna want those tie downs back pretty soon, as his car should be coming in soon. Think I'll buy him new ones, as I've used his many times, and as a 'payment' for all the work he does on the car. Do you think that would be nice?

good idea. But why spend $185 when I have a guy that'll make house calls???
seriously, what tool goes into the end of the tool to remove the spinner?? It must be a long pole type thing?
I'll take a look - cuz I'm sure at some point he won't be available, and it'll just be me..... no fun.

Definately a long pole (I couldn't resist), most OEM lug wrenches would work. Longer (seriously) works better.
