I missed you asking about the Fairlane site. Right now it isn't much as they are in the process of making it more like Club Cobra so people can post and interact on it, but that is a ways off as they are really not sure how to go about it. But the site is www.fairlaneclubofamerica.com

Just do a search and type in Fairlane. I found a lot of sites and some good buys, plus some junkers. Even a few Thunderbolt Clones. In the mean time,maybe the car below will get you by until you can build you one. Heck, even Kristen would be impressed if you drove up in this one. And the guy that sold it has another one that is valued at just over $2 mill.

Yes they still have the fence up. They have just put a new one up for this year. It looks so nice up there.

Those trees made me feel so insignificent. The young ones are 2100 years old. I can't remember which tree by name, but one tree is large enough, that if you made 1 x 12's out of the trunk alone it would span the USA from coast to coast.

They have it pretty much blocked off so you can't get right up to the larger trees. Once I thought about it I understood why. It seems in years gone by people would carve their name into the trunks. That type of wound will never heal itself, ever. I can't say enough how impressed I was at the shear size of those trees.

They do not make good lumber for construction thanks goodness, or they would all be gone. They are brittle and most often shatter when they fall to the ground. I guess I would shatter if I fell 300' as well.

It was absolutly breath taking. One tree the "General Sherman" tree is so large it takes 7 minutes just to walk aroung it, at a brisk pace. It is the largest living thing on Earth and is impressive.

We purchased one of its offspring. $6.95 it will survive in our climate. Only problem is it takes a tad over 100 years to be 100' tall, a tad over 1,000 years to be 200' tall and atad over 2,000 years to be 275 feet tall. I guess i'll miss that part.


Well I got the yard mowed. I went to get some water out of the water dispensor on the frig in the garage and the water tank broke and started to flood the garage. I turned the water off and cleaned up a small water mess on the garage floor. Could you imagine if it was the iside frige two weeks ago and run the whole time. Lucky me.

I remember the General Sherman well. I have spent many weekends in that park when I was young. And I agree, those trees really tend to make you feel insignificent. We used to have to watch for people trying to get pieces of bark off the trees to take home as well as the carving of names.
Boy, you did luck out on the water tank deal. With my luck it would have busted about 15 minutes after I left. I need to mow again but have spent the past four days cutting rose bushes. Boy, I hate cutting those things, but it had to be done. Now my hands and arms look as if I have ran them through a meat grinder. But my neighbor came over and hauled them over onto his 2 acre back lot to stack with his limbs and stuff that he will burn next Fall when they will let us burn again. I was going to mow tomorrow but they are calling for rain and it is very dark and overcast here now and really feels humid.
I will be looking forward to the pictures as it has been a long time since I was at any of those parks, and I never did make it to Yellowstone.

I did not make it to Shasta lake but it took us three days to get through California. We took our time and stopped at all the tourist traps to visit. Boy did we have fun.

I had forgotten how long it took to get through California. We only got lost two times on the whole trip and both were in California. We somehow ended up in the olive groves, then the orange groves, then the .... well you get it. When you get outside of town there are NO SIGNS AT ALL! Get this we even ask a policeman and he had no idea where the highway was. There was a wreck and it was a fairly bad one. We saw a firetruck on the side on the road. The guys were looking at maps on the front fender of the firetruck. That was scary huh.

We took well over 400 pictures. Those digital cameras are great. We can print the ones we want and store the rest for later.

Wew colud not get all the large trees into one picture so we had to put several together. We di manage to get General Sherman, General Grant, and Centinal into one picture. When you back up far enough to get the whole tree into the picture the people standing by them look like ants. It is a very humbleing experiance.

Yellowstone is a beautiful place, or at leats it used to be. I hate to say this but it really was kinda dissapointing. Olny because of the fires though. I really hate to say that but it is true. They should have planted new trees in the 80's and the forest would have been grown back by now. As their plan goes it will not be grown back in my lifetime. That is sad by anyones account.

I have the disk in my hand an I will try to load some pictures in my gallery. I will try. I have not doen that before.

I hate to get off subject here but I was truely amazed by the size of these trees. You would think I have never seen one.

That is why you should always turn the water supply line off at the source if you have an icemaker/water frig.. As well as turn off the water to your water heater...shut the power off too so you don't burn the heater out, and make sure your laundry washers water supply is also off if you are leaving for an extended stay...FWIW

The water was turned off in the house while we were gone. This all happened when we turned everything back on when we returned home.

I learned that lesson several years ago when a water heater went south while we were gone for the weekend.

Yea we did all the right things and the house was ok while we were gone. Just got lucky it was the frig in the garage and not on the slate floor in the kitchen.

The set back T-stats were great as well, we could hold the temp at a higher # while we were gone and call the house while we were out and program them so the house to be cool when we got home. Now THATS neat!

Hey, when you guys leave for an extended period of time, do you drain the water system?

Everytime we have gone for any peruiod of time, I have a house sitter visit the house and check things. So, I haven't left the house actually alone, I was wondering what people do for extended periods like a month or so.

The digital cameras are great. I just have a cheap Olympus with 4 MPX, but I carry it all the time and it takes great pictures. Only thing I miss is the 60 MM zoom lens that my 35 MM Pentax had. This one only has a 10 power zoom. I have a huge amount of money in a high end 35 MM Nikon with various lens and I doubt if I have taken 10 rolls of film with it. I just got tired of carrying around that bag. I like a small camera that I can stickin my pocket and the Olympus fits that perfectly. It isn't nearly as good as the newer ones with the longer zooms and more MPXs, but it does the job for me. I have looked at some newer models and just really can't justify the price for what I do.
If you have trouble loading the pictures into your gallery, just give me a yell and we will get them in. I am still sorting through the 100 pictures that Lil Mike sent me from the Battifields around Gettysburg.
To bad you couldn't stop by Shasta Lake. I just live 10 miles from the dam. Getting lost in Calif. is easy. I still do it all the time. And they are always changing the highways it seems so every time I go back some place after a year or so, it is all different.

Speaking of the Dam.

You won't believe this but while we were walking across the dam a Blue with white striped cobra drove accross the dam.

I waved at the guy(did not know who) but the general consenses now is to keep moving. I am real surprised they still let 18 wheelers accross the dam. I read signs everywhere no commercial traffic, but when we were there we saw @15 big trucks cross it. We could not figure out why.

Besides if "Ben ladden" wanted to blow it up, it would get blown up. They still let regular traffic accross it and travel trailers. I noticed they are building a new road beside the old one. Are they going to divert traffic accross a new bridge or is that just for existing heavy traffic?

I have been there four times before and the water level is the lowest I have ever seen. I could not tell for sure but it looks about fifty feet low. How far down is the water level?

Never drain your household system for long periods of time. I have built over 450 new homes and know this first hand. In fact it is made clear in our home owmers manuals. The reason is when you drain your water pipes for long periods of time several things start to occur.

One, bacteria like you have never seen (or want to) will take over. It will require a bleach wash of the system to kill.

Two, some homes (not any of mine) will have a PVC water supply line. When these types of lines dry out they will start to leak. They are designed to contain water not air. It is very bad for the fittings for these types of lines to loose water pressure for extended periods of time.

Three, Even the drains should have water in them. They will dry up and leak as well. It you have a bathroom in your home that is not used regularly, go in there every once and a while and run the water in the sinks and shower, and flush the toilet. It will do your system good.

If you are leaving for extended periods, simply turn off the water outside at the front of your home. Most newer homes have seperate water shutoff valves at the front of the house. If not, turn it off at the meter. If the weather will be freezing, put in some antifreeze in the toilets and the water system. When you get back simply turn the water back on and run it for about five mins. Turn the gas or electric off to the water heaters, at the pilot lights and the valves. This will keep the heaters from evaporating the water inside and burning up the heater and down your home.

There are different ways to protect your home in different parts of the country. If it gets really hot, or really cold when your will be gone simply call a local plumber and ask them, they will be happy to help out.

Those are great pictures and boy do they bring back some memories. Many of the places still look just the same to me as they did when I was there working. Now you have me wanting to go on a trip and see all of them again.

BTW: I got a good laugh at all the yards in California that are gravel. No landscaping of any kind. It made me think of you. It is amazing how many freeways have gravel instead of grass outside Vegas.
