I need somthing that will polish the aluminum wheels on my truck. They are beginning to look old and they are terribly hard to clean.

Being in the construction business I can simpithise (SP) with Noah. I saw this several years ago when the big spotted owl debate was brewing. There were also jokes around here about painting spots on pidgeons, no one would know the difference.

I figured that you would be able to understand all the B.S. that these save the planet type creates. I remember the Spotted Owl crap here and also the chaining themselves to trees to keep the loggers from cutting them. They also tore up logging equipment and caused all kinds of damage and then claimed they could not be prosecuted because they were working with God to save the planet. Our last big row here was putting the dam Rattle Snakes on the endangered species list. I still kill them and would love to get a big one and put it in bed with some of these idiots.

How bad is the aluminum wheels on your truck? There are some good polishes for aluminum, but some are not so good and will scratch it as it feels like a liquid sand paper if you rub some between your fingers. I just use the wet paint as it really makes the chrome shine and also cleans the glass really well, as well as polishes the paint. If they aren't pitted or anything and are just dirty, you should be able to find several brands of polish that will do the job.

Metal Wax works well on my al fuel tank. It has a cleaner then a wax to use. Otherwise I just use some Eagle One Never Dull.

Nothey are not all beat up. They are nice whells they just have real bad water spots and the like on them. No major scratches on them. I talked to a wheel guy here that repolishes alum wheels he said he could easily make them look like new but it cost more than buying new wheels.

I have been doing it by hand for several years and I am tired of that way. I have used never dull and thatstuff is great but it takes forever one these wheels. Party because I don't keep them shinny all the time I guess. I used mothers before and that works ok but it sure is alot of work. i was looking into a polisher that goes on my drill gun and trying that with the mothers.

Has anyone used the Eastwood stuff?

What is "Wet Paint" Ron? I've never heard of it ,where is it available from? Sounds like a neat product

I use "California Custom original Purple"
It's available from trucking supply outlets here in Oz.
The secret is not to rub hard when applying.
I was put onto this stuff by a friend who has a show Harley.

Ron, I am still trying to decide on what to do with the shift linkage. I have to come up with something better than what I have, Hurst makes the most loose fitting rods ever.

Anyway, it was 95 outside with a heat index of 107 yesterday, so I stayed inside and goofed with the kids.

Going to try to get the starter back in and slave hooked up tonight. That leaves the side pipe, trans and shifter.

There's a car show this weekend, but I will not make it, too much and no time or money. Well, maybe next year.

The realization the cobra is NOT a drag car is more apparent than ever as I cleaned the pieces of clutch out of the bellhousing. No more 7500 pops or "spin the tires" specials. However, a quick second to third run would not be unreasonable.

Wet Paint is a product that several of the show car people around this area told me about. One that had a solid black Cobra kept it looking like you could walk into the black it was so shiny and deep looking. Even on my whitemCobra, the first time I drove it over to a friends he just stared and asked me what I had did as he couldn't hardly look at it in the sun. I toldhim and he had alwaus used the waterless car wash on his and his Corvette, so I took him a little and he did the Cobra and then threw away his waterless wash and ordered a case of the Wet Paint. Now he does all 6 of his cars with it. I really like it for the ease of use and I can do the big Cobra in abut 45 minutes with it and it used to take about 1 1/2 hours to do it with wax.

I hope that everything goes back together fast and easy for you. Even if you miss the car show you can still enjoy the car and there must be more than one car show back there. We have five or six small ones a year even here. And then the big one in April to start the year. You could ease out in 1st until it was moving and then go to 2nd and on through the gears. Starting in 2nd could lead to another clutch problem if you do it often. But not being a drag racer I really don't know much about it. Not much traction in the first two gears with regular tires, and putting slicks on really is hard on 2nd gear starts according to a guy here who tried it. Keep plugging and you will have it done soon.

It sounds like you have worn plastic shifter rod bushings and/or slop between the clip and shifter arm.
Hurst (Mr. Gasket) makes a replacement kit that uses steel bushings,$6.99.With this kit and AN washers of the correct thickness between the clip & arm the rods have zero slop.

Very solid feel.I use this kit on my Hurst in a '67 RS/SS 396 Camaro.

Thanks Fred, I'm battling limited space and the rods are bent all over. I got the kit at the beginning. It helped a lot, but it is time for major work on the entire process.

Ron, I am going to look at this Wet Paint thingy. The car is a mess ( it's been up on the platform for a month ). I think I am going to have to detail first and Wet Paint after.

How hard is it for you to pull your transmission? The way mine is I can have it out and on the bench in 20 minutes by myself. A little faster if I have someone to help hold it as I don't have a transmission jack.
Once you get the worst off of your car the Wet Paint will really make it look good. And the more times you go over it the better it gets. Also a very slick finish and bugs just wipe off easily with a dampcloth if you don't let them set and bake on for a day or so. An example of the slickness is this. On the 69 Cobra, which is a fastback I used to lay my polishing cloths on the trunk lid while I was working on it. After one time over it with the wet pain I laid them there as usual and they slid right off. Now I have to lay them on top or on the work bench.

I think she has left the kids in Texas and is rushing over here to Australia for our weekend BBQ - her last 'Post' on the Australian Forum.

I invted her over on the promise that she would bring some young Mums from her kids school with her.

Have not heard from her since. She is either on the way with her mates, or I have offended her...

Oooh well. I'll be in trouble either way......what will I do if she turn up with half a dozen young Mums..
