Kristen,

Good luck in the football playoffs. I hope they win.

Warren,

You hunt like I do now. In food stores.

Good morning world. Its 29°F outside Winter is here.

Saturday is cooking day. Spaghetti sauce, chili, maybe some stuffed green peppers. Yum.

Congrats to Tru's and Kristen's kids. One hunts deer, the other hunts pigskins.

Warren,

You are up early. Want to enjoy the warm weather while it lasts I guess. The Mt. Shasta Goddess said that you have a real Winter ahead of you. Snow, really cold, wind, ice, and once in a while you will see the sun for brief moments.

Well it is cool and very overcast here. It sprinkled just a little last night and is so dark you need lights on, but no rain. I guess all of our rain is being converted to snow and on its way to Tru and Warren.

The Mt Shasta Goddess is a wimp! I bet she could not dump a foot of snow on Tru within the next week.

Fred - 77°F is great driving weather. When was your last ride? I'm assuming the Humpin' Ho Sisters would at least let you go for a ride on the Harley. Only got up to 41°F this afternoon. I at least said HI to my Cobra as I transfered my golf clubs from the trunk to the garage. Does not look like much more golf weather this year. Hmmmmm ... maybe its time for a trip to Florida. I hear they play golf down there a lot.

Tru - I'm in the middle of shooting an 8 pt batch of chili. Hit it with a couple of onions and it jumped right into the crock pot. Did not have to skin much, just the onions.

Gotta go hunting for some of the rascally green peppers. Boy, are they fast in the woods. But once they cool down in produce display cases, they are real easy to bag. No blood when you cut them up is nice too. But sometime I add tomato sauce and paste which looks somewhat like blood.

Low 80's here today and clear so I'll be taking the Cobra to a friend's house
on the other side of the island to attend their grandchildren twins' first
birthday party, which is a big deal here. Should be fun.

After bagging a few green peppers, I heard the Cobra calling .... "Take me for a ride". It was 42 °F outside but worth the short 8 mile ride. Just long enough to get the water and oil up to normal ranges, and allow me the opportunity to floor the loud pedal.

I feel good. Chili almost done.

Warren,

I love Chili also and they used to have Chili cook offs around here where all the people go together and tried to win the Best Chili award. I could never eat the really hot stuff but at least it was a free meal after tasting all the different kinds. And another added bonus was even though I love it, Chili has never liked me. But at least for a week after that I never had to worry about buying any laxatives.

Just woke up and turned up the heat. Brrrrr. Its 28°F outside.

Ron - my chili is mild. I do not like it hot like my sister makes it ... flames come out of your mouth.

Guess I'll cook up some spaghetti sauce today. Got to stock up the freezer.

I checked the size of my gallery yesterday because I could not upload a picture. I have 156.2MB of pictures stored in my gallery. The new limits of 50 MB for contributing members means I have to do some MAJOR surgery! Guess I'm going to delete a bunch of pics and resize a lot that I want to save. I only have 844 pictures.

Warren,

We have ha d severe weather warnings here for the past two days and lasting until Tuesday with forecasts of light sprinkles at times. That is how bad the drought is. any time a light sprinkle is considered a severe weather event it has to be bad. And so far we haven't even gotten any of the sprinkles. Just very dark and overcast with some light mist at times. I have had to keep the lights on in the house the last tow days as it is so dark.

As for the pictures, store some of them in another place. I use photo bucket for a lot of mine. Since I have no car, I am thinking of cleaning my gallery out. It feels kind of stupid to have pictures of a car that I used to have in there.

The Humpin' Ho Sisters and I now believe the 'joke' that Ron posted two years ago is really based on you two !

Chili Contest

If you can read this whole story without laughing then there's no
hope for you. I was crying by the end.

Note: Please take time to read this slowly. If you pay attention to the first two judges, the reaction of the third judge is even better. For thoseof you who have lived in Texas, you know how true this is. They actually have a Chili Cook-off about the time Halloween comes around. It takes up a major portion of a
parking lot at the San Antonio City Park.

Judge #3 was an inexperienced Chili taster named Frank, who was visiting from Springfield, IL.

Frank: "Recently, I was honored to be selected as a judge at a chili cook-off. The original person called in sick at the last moment and I happened to be standing there at the judge's table asking for directions to the Coors Light truck, when the call came in. I was assured by the other two judges (Native Texans) that the chili wouldn't be all that spicy and, besides, they told me I could have free beer during the tasting, so I accepted."

Here are the scorecard notes from the event:

CHILI # 1 - MIKE'S MANIAC MONSTER CHILI

Judge # 1 -- A little too heavy on the tomato. Amusing kick.

Judge # 2 -- Nice, smooth tomato flavor. Very mild.

Judge # 3 (Frank) -- Holy ****, what the hell is this stuff? You
could remove dried paint from your driveway. Took me two beers to put the flames out. I hope that's the worst one. These Texans are crazy.

CHILI # 2 - AUSTIN'S AFTERBURNER CHILI........

Judge # 1 -- Smoky, with a hint of pork. Slight jalapeno tang.

Judge # 2 -- Exciting BBQ flavor, needs more peppers to be taken
seriously.

Judge # 3 -- Keep this out of the reach of children. I'm not sure
what I'm supposed to taste besides pain. I had to wave off two people who wanted to give me the Heimlich maneuver. They had to rush in more beer when they saw the look on my face.

CHILI # 3 - FRED'S FAMOUS BURN DOWN THE BARN CHILI........

Judge # 1 -- Excellent firehouse chili. Great kick.

Judge # 2 -- A bit salty, good use of peppers.

Judge # 3 -- Call the EPA. I've located a uranium spill. My nose
feels like I have been snorting Drano. Everyone knows the routine by now. Get me more beer before I ignite. Barmaid pounded me on the back, now my backbone is in the front part of my chest. I'm getting ****-faced from all of the beer.

CHILI # 4 - BUBBA'S BLACK MAGIC.........

Judge # 1 -- Black bean chili with almost no spice. Disappointing.

Judge # 2 -- Hint of lime in the black beans. Good side dish for fish or other mild foods, not much of a chili.

Judge # 3 -- I felt something scraping across my tongue, but was
unable to taste it. Is it possible to burn out taste buds? Sally, the
beer maid, was standing behind me with fresh refills. That 300-LB woman is starting to look HOT...just like this nuclear waste I'm eating! Is chili an aphrodisiac?

CHILI # 5 LISA'S LEGAL LIP REMOVER.......

Judge # 1 -- Meaty, strong chili. Cayenne peppers freshly ground, adding considerable kick. Very impressive.

Judge # 2 -- Chili using shredded beef, could use more tomato. Must admit the cayenne peppers make a strong statement.

Judge # 3 -- My ears are ringing, sweat is pouring off my forehead and I can no longer focus my eyes. I farted and four people behind me needed paramedics. The contestant seemed offended when I told her that her chili had given me brain damage. Sally saved my tongue from bleeding by
pouring beer directly on it from the pitcher. I wonder if I'm
burning my lips off. It really pisses me off that the other judges asked me to stop screaming. Screw those rednecks.

CHILI # 6 - VERA'S VERY VEGETARIAN VARIETY.......

Judge # 1 -- Thin yet bold vegetarian variety chili. Good balance of spices and peppers.

Judge # 2 -- The best yet. Aggressive use of peppers, onions, and garlic. Superb.

Judge # 3 -- My intestines are now a straight pipe filled with
gaseous, sulfuric flames. I **** on myself when I farted and I'm
worried it will eat through the chair. No one seems inclined to stand behind me except that Sally. Can't feel my lips anymore. I need to wipe my ass with a snow cone.

CHILI # 7 - SUSAN'S SCREAMING SENSATION CHILI........

Judge # 1 -- A mediocre chili with too much reliance on canned
peppers.

Judge # 2 -- Ho hum, tastes as if the chef literally threw in a can
of chili peppers at the last moment. **I should take note that I am worried about Judge # 3. He appears to be in a bit of distress as he is cursing uncontrollably.

Judge # 3 -- You could put a grenade in my mouth, pull the pin, and I wouldn't feel a thing. I've lost sight in one eye, and the world sounds like it is made of rushing water. My shirt is covered with chili, which slid unnoticed out of my mouth. My pants are full of lava to match my shirt. At least during the autopsy, they'll know what killed me. I've decided to stop breathing it's too painful. Screw it; I'm not getting any oxygen anyway. If I need air, I'll just suck it in through the 4-inch hole in my stomach.

CHILI # 8 - BIG TOM'S TOENAIL CURLING CHILI........

Judge # 1 -- The perfect ending, this is a nice blend chili. Not too
bold but spicy enough to declare its existence.

Judge # 2 -- This final entry is a good, balanced chili. Neither mild
nor hot. Sorry to see that most of it was lost when Judge #3 farted, passed out, fell over and pulled the chili pot down on top of himself. Not sure if he's going to make it. poor feller, wonder how he'd have reacted to really hot chili?

Judge # 3 No Report!

Ron

Every time I've read that joke I laugh so much, I start to cry. That's just like my reaction to my sister's hot chili.

Fred,

When I first read that joke, the first thing I though of was my reaction to a big bite of Chili that I took at one of the cook offs. I should have noticed the spoon was melting as I was lifting it to my mouth. My water bill for the month tripled in the two days following that.

Hard to believe it has already been a year.

It is hard to believe that this year is almost gone. Some days seem to last forever and then the next day it seems a month has passed.

Turtle season opens soon. I think I may go hunting this year. I can still move fast enough to get within bow range of them.

My brother-in-law hunts deer with a bow & arrow. He goes for nice long walks and sometimes he even sees a deer.

I almost bagged a deer when I was on vacation. I was driving about 11:30 PM after a night at a local watering hole, and a deer jumped right out of the bushes into the street ... and froze. I slammed on the brakes and missed him by 20 feet, as he (she?) leisurely walked across the road. I should have hit it because the meat would probably bring in more $$ than my daily driver is worth.

Made chili yesterday ... today was time for spaghetti sauce and some "special tomato mixture" I use for spanish omelets, fajitas and stuffed green peppers. I had about 2 lbs of hamburg left over, so I'm cooking a meat loaf as I type. I also made some corn muffin "tops". You can call me Emeril and kiss my ring.

Go Pats - creamed Buffalo chips tonight.

I put up the stuff in small containers or vacuum bags and freeze them.

Spag sauce will last 4 months. The special tomato mixture was about 20 cups, but I'll use it up in 2 or 3 months. The meatloaf I just made was in a 9 inch pan. I usually get 6 meals out of a meatloaf. Just finished meat loaf dinner with a big plate of broccoli and green beans with a baked potato. Ummm good.

Chili was probably about 15 cups and it will last me a couple of months.

One thing I do with a lot of food when I make up a large batch, is to vacuum seal it before freezing. It really extends the life in the freezer.

Of course, some things are not so hot when they are re-heated, so the frozen stuff fills in when I'm lazy or pressed for time.

Speaking of time - its time for the Pats. Say hi to the HHS for me.
