It was 45°F and raining this afternoon. Now at 11 PM, its clear skies and its 60°F. Time for a midnight ride? Oooops, change that - its raining again.
Joe - I feel your pain. My last 3 computers I've bought from Dell in the last decade, I had to attach some cords AND push the power button to get them up and running. Boy, was it frustrating! :JEKYLHYDE:p:rolleyes::LOL:**):o |

My Mexican spys got some top secret photos of Fred's adventures. Fred wanted to try a new form of racing, but he came in last.

Joe,
My last two Computer problem solutions. Ron :) |
Well the MB saga continues. I decided to just upgrade my drive and bypass the IDE like I said and all went well for Windows installation. Start loading the Motherboard drivers and no LAN detected. So, it isn't as if the port has a loose connection, the whole damn chip isn't even seen by the computer. Tore apart the PC again, and am going to exchange the MB one more time. I have used ASUS brand PC products for years with absolutely no complaints. I am not getting another one of their MBs though. Too many issues with multiple parts. I am going to get another one that is about the same price, but does not have all the features the one I got did. Hopefully it will at least work as advertised.

Joe,
That can get old really fast. I shake so badly any more that I am afraid to start taking stuff out and getting into tight places as I bend the pins and even with my pin straighteners I can't see well enough or hold them steady enough to do much. And I don't know of any places left up here that sell components. There area couple of places that will build you a computer, but they won't sell the cases and parts for you to put it together. I had thought about building one a year or so ago until I got inside this one and was shaking so bad I wasn't sure I could even get the darn bad hard drive out of it without wrecking the rest of the stuff. I hope that your next MB does better. Ron :) |
Me too. 46 mile round trip to the store gets old.

Hello, Dell? Can you make me a computer?

Actually Dell is about the only one of the major computer manufacturers now that you can custom make a computer from. Since Acer bought Gateway and the others have decided it is faster and cheaper to just sell whatever they cram together, they really use some cheap junk. I looked at the DVD tray that came in a top line Gateway the other day and I swear it is so flimsy that it looks as if the weight of the DVD would break it off. And the drive sounds s if it is grinding, so it is not a very expensive drive. At least at Dell you can still sit down and order what you want. H.P. does offer you a selection of monitors. If I were going to buy a new one, I would seriously look at Dell now as there is no lace around here to get parts to build one. The one place that I know of that will custom build a computer here would be the other place I would consider after looking at the new offerings. And Dell will still load Windows XP, while the others will only load Vista. I have played some with Vista and am not to impressed so far with it.
Joe, why not get one of each MB and bring them home and tell them you will return all except the one that works. May save you a bunch of trips. :) Ron :JEKYLHYDE |

2008 Darwin Award Nominee Confirmed True by Darwin (8 March 2008, Czech Republic) Steel is valuable, especially the high grade alloy used in steel cable. Scrap metal dealers do not ask questions. They pay in cash. And a good supply of cables can be found in elevator shafts. This particular goldmine was a towering shaft inside an empty grainery near Zatec, 40 miles northwest of Prague. The cable was tightly fastened, and the far end of it disappeared into the shadowy distance above. After substantial wear and tear on a hacksaw, our man finally cut through the strong steel cable. At that instant, the counterbalance, no longer held in check, started to move silently downwards, accelerating until it reached the bottom of the shaft. Result: one proud winner of a "terminal velocity" Darwin Award. R.I.P. He probably owned a Turtle too!!! Ron :3DSMILE: |
Ron,
I know Dell still has the options of building your own, but in order to specify the exact parts, it gets real expensive. To build it by specs, it is usually cheaper, but it still came out to a few hundred more than doing it myself. |
Got to love those that attack with a hacksaw.
Got the lift fixed! Took all day today and $500.00, but it is new seals on one side and adjusted for all sorts of nice things. :D :D |
I would not touch that with a ten foot pole ... make that a 1 foot Pole.:LOL::LOL:
Squish :(:o Had some baby back ribs for supper. I had to take a shower afterwards. |
Joe,
I know what you are saying and I used to do the same thing. It is just that I am not now capable of doing it any more. In fact if I don't start to improve from last Mondays heat stroke I may not even be able to take care of myself much longer let alone worry about building computers and messing with cars and other material things. Ron |
A working Motherboard. Computer is together, Windows installed, updates done, drivers installed and working. Now I just have to figure out how to make Windows XP and Vista talk. Both computers want to be in charge of the network and won't see each other.
|
Joe,
I am glad that you got that part of it going. As for the Vista, just tell it that it is not in charge. Ron :) |
