I don't have a car with cruise control and didn't know that actually. I have driven a lot in snow and ice, but I did it the old fashion way by slowing down and using common sense. And before you start laughing, I do have a small amount of common sense.

Ron :p

That is all that is required, but many people don't get it. They think by maintaining a speed, it is safer, but once there is any slipping, the Cruise Control will try to accelerate to maintain that speed, this causes more slipping and the car continues to slow, more throttle is applied, etc... All of this happens in a matter of just a second or 2. If you recognize the slipping right away and disengage the Cruise, you will be fine. Most people will wonder, what was that, and now it is too late. As a rule, I never run cruise control when there is any snow/ice or wetness that covers the road. You will not run into a problem if there is not enough water to hydroplane. Light sprinkles do not cause a problem. Once my tires start kicking up enough water to begin to obscure objects, I turn of the cruise.

Not to start an arguement...just to understand.

If the speed sensor is tied to the trans/driveshaft or the driven wheels, and the tires slip..increasing their speed...won't the controler cut back on engine speed, thus slowing the car/wheels ??

Drove the car to work today.

I need to find out if there is just speculation or if there is a real weather threat for Friday.

I am sick of working on cars.

Left for a nice drive at 3:30. Went to a new cruise night and got home at 8:45. Just your basic 5 hour cruise. Fantastic weather.

When I got home, I turned on the basketball game. Boy, the Lakers could do no wrong in the first half. Twenty four point lead in the second quarter.

But the Celtics pulled out an amazing defensive shutdown of the LA Fakers. The Fakers scored 33 points in the first quarter ... but only 33 points in the second half.

Of course, I expect some of the Faker fans on CC to chime in on how bad the refs were, and that the moons of Nebulous were not in alignment and some other bull$hit excuse.

Yea Celtics.

Warren,

I guess we just have to consider this year as the year of Boston's sports teams having a great season. The Red Sox are doing well also. Lakers tend to choke when things get tough it seems. No excuses. The Celtics, ( GAGGING HERE ) are just the better team. Since I lost, I will see if Fred will send BB to live with you for the next month. Maybe pose sitting on the fender of your Cobra for some calender type pictures.

Ron

As you are aware, once the rear tires break traction, it really doesn't take much to spin out, or loose control of the car if you are not ready for it. It really isn't as much as a problem in front wheel drive cars as the front tires spinning, doesn't cause you to spin. Also most cars do connect to trans to get speed, but I can tell you that a 1976 Mercury Monarch does not. The speedometer cable is connected to the transmission, but the speed sensor that the cruise control used was connected to the left front wheel.

Edit: With most cars now using electronics to send speed data (My Mustang has a speedometer cable that turns an electronic speed sensor mostly for the purpose of having a cable I believe) I would assume that the source is the same for all speed sensing. So it may not be as bad as it used to be. I just have never changed my driving habits.

Ron
The series is not over yet, but it looks good for the Celtics. Pierce has done a fantastic job covering the MVP.

I need to take another vacation ... I looked at that photo and I did see one tiny little difference between the dolphins. Thanks for posting that photo.

Had to turn the fans off last night .... brrrrr ... it got down to 50°F. Supposed to be another ideal day today ... sunny with temp around 80°F with a sea breeze along the coast.

Need to clean the beast today. It needs it, especially since I plan to crash the FFR Open House on Saturday. Nothing better than walking around a big parking lot with 200 Cobras.

Time for breakfast. Maybe a Celtics omelet?:LOL::LOL:

Ron61 06-13-2008 04:29 AM

Warren,

We are having HOT weather with some wind and also now starting to have some fires. They were giving directions on the news last night to people in Paradise which is just out of Chico on where to evacuate to. But so far they have been lucky and none of the fires have gotten into the canyons and really taken off. A couple of pretty good sized grass fires also and one Fire Captain was burned pretty bad when the wind caused him to get caught in the fire.
Have a great time at the Factory 5 Open House. Wish I could attend one of the events but those days are past I fear.

Ron :(

Not doing the car show, it is going to typhon in about 30 minutes.

Pulled the car from the garage, I stopped to get detailing items and I heard the thunder. Looked up and pulled the car back into the garage. It rained big time for about 15 minutes...a prelude to what is heading our way.

Dang, I sort of wanted to do the show.

:D :D

Ron61 06-13-2008 04:41 AM

Tru,

We could sure use that rain. Send it out here and then go to your show. At least you didn't get half way there and get caught in a downpour.

Ron :)

4RE KLR 06-13-2008 06:41 AM

What Dolphins, all I saw was two illegals jumping over a fence. :0

Ron61 06-13-2008 07:02 AM

Steve,

You had better start that extended vacation as soon as possible. Even Warren only saw one minor difference. %/

Ron

4RE KLR 06-13-2008 08:45 AM

Yea, wifey tells me the same thing almost daily.

Ron61 06-13-2008 09:11 AM

Darn,

The air conditioner just kicked on and it is only 9:10 AM. The temperature is supposed to be 102 today but it stayed at 76 all night and is humid and hot this morning. Some wind blowing. I did do a little mowing but didn't even start that upper lot. To much dust and I have sneezed like crazy all morning.

Ron :(

Joe Wicked 06-13-2008 09:55 AM

Ron,
We have the AC set at 78 and it kicks on and off throughout the night. It is just so humid here that the heat hangs around all night. Just walking outside to feed my dog will make me sweat lately.

4RE KLR 06-13-2008 11:57 AM

Dang Ron,
You have it made. Sometimes here at night, about two or three o'clock in the morning, it cools way off into the 90's.

The A/C here has been on for well over a month, heck almost two.

Ron61 06-13-2008 01:28 PM

Well I went out and mowed the upper lot and that dust is really bad. I had to stop several times to wash my eyes.

Steve,

We will soon be into the no lower than 95 nights, but I hope not many of them. I remember one Summer here when we had a week that it never got below 102 at night. I have to enjoy these cool days while they last. But we do have more humidity now than we had a few years ago. Still nothing like down along the Gulf Coast area though.

Ron :)

392cobra 06-13-2008 01:41 PM

My son Josh started a summer job a week before finishing his Jr. in high school. Got hired as Service Manager at Kroger's,a big chain grocery store.

He just got his first paycheck this week.So what does a 17 y/o with a girlfriend do with his own money ???

He told me last night he bought tickets for him and I to go to a Chicago & Doobie Brothers Concert together on Father's Day !!!

I'm one happy Dad.:):3DSMILE::D

4RE KLR 06-13-2008 01:41 PM

Ron,
Too Bad there is no one there to help you mow that yard. You would think that in the town someoone would want a job. :(

After the police had their Mexican Rodeo Round-up there is not too many around here to work either.

Fred,
Congrats.

trularin 06-13-2008 02:38 PM

Would you believe it?

I drove back home and got the car for the show.

I must have let 50 children sit in the front seat so mom or dad could take a picture.

It was great. Drove home dodging the rain drops as I went.

:D :D :D
