I saw that Ron,
Is it because it is so dry the lighting is starting the fires ??

Amazing just how many different fires are burning at the same time.

There is no better way to log 1000 miles on your cobra than to drive to Columbus OH, do the LCS and drive back.

So, I purchased some wind wings for the car.

I also purchased the 2006 and 2007 DVD, but when I got home, there were NO DVDs in the cases.

I will have to email the londoncobrashow.com and see if they can fix that.

What all have you been up to...no good???

Tru,

Just watching the fires and thank goodness they have most of them about out. It was really pretty smoky and miserable here for a day or so. I believe they said that the lightening and storms had started over 400 fires in the state but most of them only burned a few acres. We had over 60 in this area, but they had the planes and fire fighters right on them so not many homes were lost.
That is to bad about the Cds but I always open the case and look inside when I buy one. If the store won't allow me to cut the plastic, I don't buy it. That was quite a trip and I am happy that you got to go. And I am sure the 38 MPG helped too. Post some pictures.

Ron

Hey Ron
Out your way is it considered a good day if you are not on fire?

OMG 400 fires. You gotta kill all 'em fire-bugs.

Ahhhhhhhhhh. The old empty CD case ploy. Get real. You probably lost them playing frisbie in the parking lot while sucking down some cold ones.

Warren,

Things are better today, and it is only in the low 90s, but the smoke and what humidity we have makes it hard to stay outside much. It smells as if you are standing inside a huge fireplace. And the smoke makes my eyes water and I cough a lot. Boy am I ever happy that I did my little stint with the fire crews many years ago.

Steve

Ron invented dirt. Not too many people can claim things like that.

Well, I finally found a building to store all of my valuables. This building is about 5 stories tall. Whomever owns it has a good sense of marketing.

Went for a nice 3 hour cruise Saturday afternoon/evening. I drove into Boston and investigated some areas I have never been to before. Here is a shot in East Boston, about 3 miles from Logan (shown in background).

The other side of this 1 mile long wharf is a terminal for cruise ships. Only one small ship was there when I drove by. It most likely was a booze cruise. Some of the container loaders on the next wharf. I'll have to check that one out at a later date.

I was amazed at all of the undeveloped areas in East Boston. Quite a few humongous buildings too. Some of the roads were good drag strips.

Of course, when I decided to drive home, they had started to pave part of the main road going south (Rte 95). Five glorious lanes just outside the Big Dig tunnel squeezed into 2 lanes so they could pave the road. Took me an hour to go 4 miles.

Warren,

I see that you have located Scrooge Mcduck's money bin. I thought it was lost with the last of the Donald duck comics.

Steve,

I worked at about every type job that was available while I was trying to pay my way through school. Not to long at many of them but enough to learn what they are like. Sometimes one job in the day and one at night.

Subject: Just wondering...

Where are all of the Hollywood celebrities holding telethons asking for help in restoring Iowa and helping the folks affected by the floods?

Where is all the media asking the tough questions about why the federal government hasn't solved the problem? Asking where the FEMA trucks (and trailers) are?

Why isn't the Federal Government relocating Iowa people to free hotels in Chicago?

When will Spike Lee say that the Federal Government blew up the levees that failed in Des Moines?

Where are Sean Penn and the Dixie Chicks?

Where are all the people on the roof tops?

Where are all the looters stealing high-end tennis shoes and big screen television sets?

When will we hear Governor Chet Culver say that he wants to rebuild a 'vanilla' Iowa, because that's the way God wants it?

Where is the hysterical 24/7 media coverage complete with reports of cannibalism?

Where are the people declaring that George Bush hates white, rural people?

How come in 2 weeks, you will never hear about the Iowa flooding ever again?

Ron

Ron,
I just was not going to post it, but I was thinking the same thing. Of course if any of the farmers ever asked for it, they would be called racist. Then again, they had no warning of the coming disaster, so how can they require aid? Now if they knew weeks in advance that the storms were going to come and not stop and they did nothing, then maybe they would have gotten the same treatment.

I still have a sore spot for the Katrina "victims". I lived in an apt at the time and they put up a few families there. Never had a problem until then. Car was broken into, loud music all night long, broken beer bottles in the parking lot, yelling all night outside, police lights in the parking lot all the time at night, etc... I went from living in a nice neighborhood to the ghetto overnight. I later found out that they were living rent free, while getting paid from the state. There were 2 guys who were demanding that a local bar give them free drinks all night because they were "victims".

Ron, are you still older than dirt???

I understand there are rocks off the Aussie coast that are 3.5 Billion years old.

Steve thinks you had something to do with those.

Isn't it amazing at the things that I get blamed for. I never put those rocks there. That area was originally designed to be a new fresh water sea.

Warren,
God invented dirt, but I'll give Ron the credit for spooning the first shovel full.

Ron,
Isn't it interesting how normal people deal with disasters, while those that have been taught to hold their hands out deal with the same situation in a much different manner? I do feel for the Victims of Katrina, they were not all criminals before the event.

I also understand first hand about catastrophic loss. It isn't fun and it is VERY hard to deal with. But, I have learned that we all have problems, it is how we deal with them that makes us who we are.

Steve,

Most of what was flooded in many places was originally a flood plain in the first place. They finally made those dirt dams illegal as they bust and so do those levees. After so long, that water is going to soak it through. Then a big surge and it breaks. I watched a show on TV yesterday that said we have over 1,000 dams in the United States that are now considered dangerous and could break at any time if they have a big rain or even a small earthquake. Then one of their engineers made a stupid statement. He said that they don't have to worry about seismic activity in that area. There is a chance of a quake anywhere in the world and to make a statement like that is asinine. One of the largest earthquakes they have ever found traces of happened back in the middle of the country around the St. Louis area and in that region. It changed the Mississippi Rivers flow.

With all the talk of brush fires and with the high cost of fuel,I decided to do my part by cutting the bush back and earning some gas money with a part time job.

Just ran across this and I'm not sure how doing this saves all the energy he claims. You have to understand that I'm about as GREEN as a dog turd.

You don't still use a screen saver, do you?
By Don Willmott , Forecast Earth Correspondent Posted Wed Jun 11, 2008 6:36pm PDT
I'm happy that at this stage in my career I often find myself writing articles about energy-efficient ways to use computers, peripherals, gadgets, and consumer electronics. It makes me feel so, you know, virtuous.

Whenever I crank out a list of helpful hints, one of the first items I include is this obvious but often overlooked gem of advice: Kill your stupid screen saver. In the good old days of tube monitors, screen savers such as those unforgettable flying toasters were invented to prevent burn-in, a permanent shadow branded into the phosphors of your monitor by a static image of, say, a spreadsheet that you left on your screen all weekend.

Well, flat-screen LCD monitors don't burn in, so if you still have flying toasters or an endlessly looping slide show of your adorable niece and nephew, you're behind the times. When you're not sitting in front of your monitor it should be off off off.

It warmed my heart to read at Green Daily that Telstra, the biggest phone company in Australia, has removed all the corporate screen savers from the 36,000 computers in its offices. What will happen? The change will cut tons of CO2, which they claim will be the equivalent of taking 140 cars off the road for a year. Good on ya, mate. Follow Telstra's example. Let your flying toasters crash and burn.
