Darn, another Monday morning and it is 31° here with a light breeze which makes it seem colder. It is also supposed to rain today but so far it isn't.
Flip,
I am jealous of your temperature. I bet Ernie is thinking about it too. He said it was cold there this morning but the snow had melted yesterday.

Steve,
I actually prefer the cold to the heat as it doesn't affect my nerves so bad. But this cold wind we have been having the last two weeks is getting old. It isn't hard, around the 10 to 20 MPH range, but it comes down from Canada and is cold. So I stay inside as much as I can to avoid the sinus problems it causes.

True dat - but I managed to freeze my a$$ off way too many times in my
youth so jumped at the chance for employment here when it arrived. I have
learned heat doesn't bother me nearly as much as cold. When it gets real
hot like in Texas this summer I can always migrate to the inside of the A/C'd
home for a break if needed. In Hawaii the trades keep it from getting very
hot - I just turn on a fan. I don't miss shoveling snow either!

Heck, I am in Miami these last 2 days and they are talking record heat tomorrow. Mid 80s here with a low of 70. Looking forward to going back home today though, I can never sleep well in hotels.

Joe,
With all of the traveling that I did and the amount of time I spent living in motels and hotels, I never did sleep as well as I did when I was able to come home. Just something about the motels and such that I never did feel really comfortable in. And after months of being on the road, nothing beats being home, even if it is only for a few days.

Wow, it is cold here this morning. Just barely 20° and a light wind is blowing which makes it even colder. And so far we still haven't had any rain. The last storm went around us and while it was raining 30 miles away we had clear skies and sun all day with cold wind.

Hey Joe, Steve, & Tru,
How did you all make out during this last storm? We had no falling weather at all but it is very cold for here. Cold wind from Canada and 18° night before last and it is 9° this morning.
We need a shivering smile.

Didn't really get much here in the Dallas area. A little rain, but no issues with it. Now if people would turn their damned sprinklers off and stop watering the street there would not be patchy ice in the mornings.

Well we set a new record for low Wednesday night. Fortunately the water lines in several places froze and there was no water on the streets and sidewalks to freeze.

Hey, believe it or not we are having a heat wave. It was up into the upper 40s yesterday and showered off and on all day and is sprinkling this morning. And to top that off my alarms went off at 12:08 AM and the phone had lost service. A ground somewhere on the tip between here and the computer. When I called repair service and they told me it would be a week before they can get to it I told them I had to have the phone because of medical purposed and my health and that I was retired from AT&T and the labs and knew they have repair people running around out here on Saturdays. When I called the computer an ESS machine she asked what that was. Used to be that a person who needs their phone because of medical problems they would get someone right on it. Now they tell you to do the best you can and hope they can get to it one of these days before you die.

15 degrees last night.
Got the stove running, man it is cold out side. Of course for someone in Michigan, this is sweater weather. Two weeks left in muzzle-loader season. The DNR stated 20% less deer were taken this year over last year.
I think there was less reporting than last year. Sounded like WWIII out here.
Well, I hope you all are staying warm.

Still in the upper 40s here during the day and we are still having light showers. But the rain is not only needed it is nice as it warms things up. However there really hasn't been much. I think the 3 day total so far is around 1.3 inches.

Monday and maybe phone service again. My main line went out at 12:08 AM Friday night and the repair service woman was about as nasty as they come. When I called her and asked if she would put it on the medical emergency list instead of the wait a week list, she told me that if I didn't make it through the weekend I wouldn't need a phone anyway. I told her it was their trouble and was back towards the ESS machine. She then asked me what that was and I told her it is the #5 computer that you should be testing my line through. She finally tested it and it has a dead ground on the line. Then she asked my how I knew about that and I told her my background with AT&T and the labs. She did get a little nicer after that and said she would try to get it fixed first thing this morning. But this whole weekend I worried abut what to do if I had to call a doctor with no phone. NO, I don't have a cell phone and have never had one. In this area they don't work to well and any time I would need one you can bet I would not be able to get a signal.

Ron,
On the subject of Cell Phones, one item that a lot of people don't know is that ANY cell phone activated or not, in the home network or not can always call 911 as long as there is a signal of course. I would suggest that you get 1 CDMA (Sprint, Verizon, MetroPCS, Cricket, US Cellular) and 1 GSM (AT&T, T-Mobile) and keep them plugged into the charger and turned on. That way as long as one technology or the other gets a signal, you can call 911. I keep old non activated phones in my car for just that purpose. No bill to worry about and you would only use them if the phone lines were down and you needed help.

Joe,
The only reason I would want a cell phone is for emergencies and I would hardly ever use one. And with no signal I couldn't call 911. My neighbor across the street about 100' has 3 different brands and at times he can't get a signal at all to call me and has to use his house phone. Even the cops that stop by to visit me run straight to the phone and call dispatch to tell them to call them at my house as their phones and radios won't work here in this area at times. And I would only want a very basic one with none of the frills, as it would never be used unless I had an emergency and then most likely I would not be able to get a signal. I may go to Walmarts after the Holiday season is over and look at what they have.
