That is to bad. I have seen some friends with cuts on their fingers from fans but nothing serious. Mine has a shroud around it and you have to really stick your hand down in there to manage to get a blade to hit it.

Got my new barn doors built.

They look very nice. Now all I have to to is hang them.

This was a fix it weekend, what did you fix?

I fixed the doors on one of my sheds. It had settled until the doors were dragging on the concrete ramp. I took my floor jack and just lifted it about 1/4inch and put a small flat piece of wood the size of the tiles they used to level it with under each side and it is all level and good now.

You never know when you might run into a nice fat possum while out for a evening ride.



Three Possum Recipes


Possum and Taters

Ingredients:
1 young, fat possum
8 sweet potatoes
2 tablespoons butter
1 tablespoon sugar
salt

Directions: First, catch a possum. This in itself is excellent entertainment on a moonlight night. Skin the possum and remove the head and feet. Be sure to wash it thoroughly. Freeze overnight either outside or in a refrigerator. When ready to cook, peel the potatoes and boil them tender in lightly salted water along with the butter and sugar. At the same time, stew the possum tender in a tightly covered pan with a little water. Arrange the taters around the possum, strip with bacon, sprinkle with thyme or marjoram, or pepper, and brown in the oven. Baste often with the drippings.

Stuffed Possum

1 possum (whole)
1 qt. cold water
1/8 cup salt
5 beef bouillon cubes
2 bay leaves
3 celery stalks (chopped)
2 onions (sliced)
Stuffing *

*1 Onion, large, finely chopped
1 tb Fat
Possum liver (optional)
1 c Bread crumbs
1 ts Red peppers, chopped
Worcestershire sauce, dash
1 Egg, hardboiled, finely chop
Salt to taste

Brown onion in hot fat, add finely chopped liver. Cook until tender.
Add other ingredients plus enough water to moisten mixture.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Soak possum in cold salt water for 10 hours. Rinse meat in cold water and refrigerate 2-4 hours. Prepare stuffing according to package directions. Stuff possum cavity with prepared packaged stuffing. Close cavity tightly. Place stuffed possum in roasting pan, add water, bouillon cubes, bay leaves, celery and onion. After 2 hours turn meat. Reduce heat to 300 degrees. Cook for 1 more hour. Test roast, if not done reduce heat and cook until done.

Cajun Possum Chili - NUCLEAR HOT !!!

Ingredients:
Tomato Sauce (depends on possum)
1 tsp.-1 cup Chili Powder (Depends on Taste and possum)
1 Large possum or 3 small (If you ran over the possum better make it 4)
1 large pot or two large ones if the first isn't enough.
5-10 chili peppers (depends on taste and possum)
5-10 red peppers (depends on taste and possum)
5-10 jalapeno peppers (depends on taste and possum)
How ever much Cayenne Pepper you like, it depends on your taste and possum.
1 tsp. Black Pepper
a pinch of salt
Chili Beans for extra flavor
And whatever other ingredients that are hot and spicy you would like to add.

Directions:
1. Skin possum(s)
2. Remove internal organs, head, claws, and bones. There is no flavor or use for these. But if you want to add them, Go ahead.
3. Put some tomato sauce in the pot(s). Then add the possum.
4. Chop peppers
5. Skip step four if you don't want chopped peppers; it doesn't matter.
6. Put the rest in and let set for a long dang while.
7. Before serving make sure you have enough bread, Milk, and Toliet paper for after dinner.
8. Serve. Enjoy
9. Race for bathroom. Whoever is first will make a large stench. Have enough air freshener.
Serving size of Meal-depends on how much you put in and on the possum.

Warning-You're a redneck if you try this. (Either that or you like really hot chili.) May cause sudden urges to go to the bathroom. May cause burned tongues and mouths. May cause severe indigestion!!

I'd heard that after awhile some people start to resemble their pet possums.

I don't know about that though.

Mine is a pet (or a door stop,depends on how/where he was found) during the week and becomes a neighborhood feast on the weekends.

I am glad I read your above post. I have a infernal ticking noise in the sweet wife's Caddy that I cannot find to save my life. It does not do it all the time. For example when we are driving or moving forward faster than about 10 MPH, no noise, but when we are moving forward at a very slow pace the ticking noise starts.

I will look at the fan and see if that is the problem. I have looked several times and I thought I was going to have to dismantle the whole front end of the car.

I now have an idea of something else to check first. I can get to one of the fans (twin fans) very easily, but I am sure if this is the problem it will be the one that is a PITA to get too.. LOL

I hope that your ticking turns out to be something simple. Will it do it when the car is sitting still?

Yes, when the car is running and sitting still the ticking noise starts and it will stop when we speed up a little, or turn the car off and re-start it.

Any other ideas I should look for?

possibly be the water pump and it is doing it when the thermostat opens? I know it is kind of a stretch, but it is the only other thing I think of.

If you can't locate it just by listening with the car at idle, try using a stethoscope. Sometimes those little noises are quite a ways from where they sound. I had one for quite a while in my Comet and I thought it was up front and when I finally located it with the stethoscope it was just a cooling line that was vibrating and hitting the side of the transmission. The mount had broke.

No it is not an internal noise, it is definitely an external noise.

When the car was new Cadillac had replaced the fan four times for similar problems. I feel certain it is in the fan. It is not the fan bearings. The fan turns freely.

It sounds like a piece of insulation, or wrapping tape, or maybe even a plastic tie-wire that is coming into contact with the fan blades as they turn.

I think it stops as we speed up because the wind coming though the radiator is pushing whatever is hitting the fan away from the blades.

One of your buddies taped an old playing card where it will tick as your fan hits it. Like we used to do with the bicycle wheels.

Fan will likely also turn off when you are up to speed as there is enough airflow coming through from driving. I know the Mustang does.
