Hi Steve,

I am glad that things are going well for you. Now we are getting into the triple digits and it is to hot to do much. Be happy that you made your trip through the Redwoods when you did. I see that now Cal Trans wants to take out a bunch of the trees near the Oregon border so they can let the big trucks go through there. They can't use that stretch of highway now because it is to narrow and the trees are to close to the road. And once they do that, the end of the Redwoods is starting.

Ron :(

Construction still sucks in Hawaii so I am just hanging on.

Weather is good as usual here.

I hadn't heard that Ron. Yes it's a good thing. I remember as a kid going there on vacation and wanted to take our children before something like this happened. Your right, once they start... it's over.

The A/C in the house went out last night... Dang it got up to 86* inside the house before the guy came by. It doesn't sound like it was to bad but when the air isn't moving it was HOT in here. I guess I am getting soft. :)

Steve,

I know that as I get older I miss AC and other things that I never thought of when I was younger. I wish my car had AC in it as we are having 100+ days with humidity that feels thick enough you should be able to see it.

It's been so dry here in Texas that a friend said he caught a 20 lb. catfish at Lake Dallas that had ticks on it !

LOL but so true. This heat this year is a killer. After several wet years, this year is hurting us. I saw that Lake Lavon is looking a little lower than I have seen it for at least 2-3 years. We really could use some rain.

4RE KLR 07-11-2011 04:43 PM

Yea, the lakes here are dropping as well. Not too bad yet, but once they get to dropping levels it seems to not stop.

This is Texas weather for sure.

It is hot and humid here also but has cooled down into the 80s for a day or so and in the mornings I have to wear a light jacket. What a change from the triple digit humid weather to low 80s and no humidity. But it is only supposed to last two more days.

Steve,

Once they start letting the water out the lakes do go down faster as the lower they get the less water they have to draw from. Once they get all of the water out of the canyons at Shasta Lake, the Main lake goes down fast.

This is one of the old railroad tunnels that was out of the water last Summer when the lake was at its lowest level since it was first filled. Normally this end of the tunnel is close to 100 feet under the water.

That is pretty cool Ron. I heard that under Lake Lavon (where i live) there is a long bridge that was once part of a highway (TX 6 I think) that crossed the area. When the dam was built and the area flooded, it was under water. When it was at it's lowest about 4 years ago I heard it was partially exposed and that boats had been hitting it. TX 6 now ends at the lake.

Ron61 07-12-2011 11:02 AM

Joe,

If you want to see more pictures of when the lake was so low just go to my Photo Bucket account as it is open to the public. You will see part of the old highway 99 and some more of the railroad and part of a trestle that has been underwater and this was the first time since they filled the lake they have been out of the water. There is a town under there but they won't let people go to it when it was low for fear of some of the old buildings collapsing and such. If you have trouble accessing my pictures let me know and I will see why. I am also logged in as Ron61 there.

I just looked through them and I think I have looked before. It has been a while but most seemed familiar to me. Every time I see something like this, I get an urge to go exploring somewhere. Go see something that most don't get to see.

Ron61 07-13-2011 05:24 AM

Well on your next trip out here take a day or so for fun and I will take you up into some of the canyons where we can look for the old Gold mines and other stuff left from the late 1800s and early 1900s. I have spent a lot of time hiking in these canyons and still find things that I never saw before.

We used to find stuff in deserts of southern Cali when I lived out there. If I do get the opportunity I am going to try to add some extra days. Work really doesn't like doing that much, but I have been stuck in Ontario, CA over a weekend.

Today was the 13th straight day of 100+. Normal is 14 total for the year.

Today also put us in 2nd place for the highest average high tempt for June 1-July13.
The record is 1980. That was an amazing summer.

Good news is it will warm up tomorrow..

But you have a long way to go for the high temp in the U.S. ;) that would be here! 134 degrees....now thats hot:MECOOL:

Joe Wicked 07-14-2011 04:12 AM

A friend of mine had a good post on his Facebook. He said, "The news is calling it a dangerous heat wave, I call it July."

Mike nothing quite like death valley here (been there and experienced it during the summer) but it has gotten over 110 here with a high humidity as well. Makes it feel even worse.

Ron61 07-14-2011 05:30 AM

Joe,

By the time you figure the heat index with the percent of humidity, 110 plus humidity can be very high. It is like the wind chill index they use in the Winter. The actual temperature may be just -40 degrees but with the wind chill it is the same as -60 degrees or more. I was in Death Valley once when they said it was the same as 144 degrees. Even the scorpions wouldn't come out from under the rocks.
