:)
Mike, Fred, and all, have a great Thanksgiving and don't over eat. Also be careful if you are going to be on the highway. Fred, stay off that 85 MPH stretch, you are to old for that.  Ron ;) |

Howdy Everybody,
HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYBODY!!!! Paul. |
Hi Paul,
I hope that you had a great Thanksgiving. It was cold here and we are finally getting some rain. But the stores here have about ruined Thanksgiving as Sears started their Black Friday sales at 4 PM on Thursday and several others started them just after 5 PM. They are even talking about starting them on Black Wednesday next year, so I guess they plan to skip Thursday completely. Ron ;) |
Howdy,
I'm sitting at Subway waiting for my Dad to get out of cataract surgery. He's having one eye done today and the other eye in two weeks. He usually reads 3 to 4 books a week so his eyesight is a big deal to him. The weather is suppose to be in the 60's and 70' for the next week so I'll be able to work on my Spyder after work and maybe a little before work. The pressure line to the hydralic throwout bearing is leaking so I had to pull the transmission to replace it. :( Paul |
Paul,
I hope that his surgery goes as well as mine did a couple of years ago. It took longer for them to prep me than the actual surgery as each eye just took about 4 to 5 minutes. Best wishes for his speedy recovery. Ron ;) |
Hello!!
Should I miss the party, HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!! :D |
Howdy Ron,
The surgery went great. On Saturday he said he could see better that he has been able to see in several years. Yesterday he said it was better that is was on Saturday and he's looking forward to having it done on his other eye in a couple of weeks. Paul |
:)
Paul, That is great. It amazed me at what a difference it made when I had mine done. The only problem I had is I have very light blue eyes and I have always had to wear sun glasses out in the bright sun, so I had to really be careful for a week or so. Ron |
Hey Paul,
How is the weather back there now? I talked to my cousin in Omaha a day or so ago and he said it was 63° and nice. At the time it was cold and snowing lightly here. Our high the lat two days was 47°. We have a member on our site that goes by the screen name Xcop that has just moved back close to Eureka Springs. I know that is quite a ways from you but maybe some day you, he, and my cousin could get together for a drive. Have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year and stay safe. Ron :) |
Howdy Ron,
It's kinda cool today but on Saturday it was 70'. Seems like it's either 20' above normal or 10' below normal. It's due to Global Warming/Climate Change and its Al Gore's fault for inventing GW/CC and the Internet. My dad had the cataract removed from his other eye on Thursday and even though it didn't go as smoothly as his first eye he stated that he can see better now than he could 10 years ago and only has to wear glasses for reading. He has a eye exam on 1-8-13 and will probably need a glasses with weak lenses for his almost 75yo eyes. Paul |
Hey, that's great about your Father. I had to wait for about 4 weeks and then have mny eyes tested and I got new lens that were a lot less powerful than what I had. It has been 3 years now and I haven't had to have a lens change, but I have a feeling that this year I may have to as it is getting a little hard for me to read the very tiny printing.

And again, Happy Holidays!

BACKDRAFT AC Cobra replica, 302 cu in, 340 hp, Holly 4 barrel carb, MSD non vacuum distributor. mileage 3000.
The idle is very rough. There is very litte low end power. It is necessary to get it up to over 3000 rpm in oder to feel any power. I have set the Mixture screws on the carb to maximum vacuum -15psi, about 2 turns back on both sides. Timing hits the mark on the balancer but I cannot see any degree marks. I think 12 degrees BTDC @ 900 rpm and 32 degrees @ 3500 rpm is where it should be set but I am not sure which MSD springs come standard in this distributor but I assume the heavy silver advance springs are used in this application. The advance curves in the MSD manual seem to be set for high end power only, Does that mean you really have to get up to high revs to reach the best part of the tourque and power curve? It does not backfire or have any pre-detonation ping. So I assume the timing is pretty close. What else can I do short of taking it to a dyno shop and having it professionally tunned? Thanks, Please direct me to someone who can help me optimize performance in this monster. TB I will change the spark plugs and put on all new spark plug wires and coil wire. |
First you would get more and better answers posting this in the Cobra Talk Forums. Where you hit the torque and power curves depends on how your engine is built. Mine hits peak power at 6300 RPM but I have the rev limiter set at 6000 RPM. It is sluggish at anything less than 2500 RPM and idles at about 1100 RPM.
Ron ;) |
Well we are now officially in 2013 and I hope it will be a good and prosperous year for all of you. Be safe and hope for the best.
Ron ;) |
