Ron, been warmer than average here, but we got a few rain showers. The big storm system missed us this past weekend, but from OK to GA tornadoes spawning everywhere.

Joe,
We are going to be in a world of hurt this Summer. Starting next month they are cutting the cities water allotment by 50% and they want everyone to cut their usage by at least 40%. I cut mine years ago to the minimum I can without disconnecting the water meter. Same for electricity but they just keep raisin the rates because then they don't take in as much as they did before the cuts. Anyone that can't pay their utility bill here and they cut them off and they evict the home owner because they don't have running water and electricity. This bunch of brain dead politicians should have been with the early settlers when there was no electricity and all of the stuff they have grown used to.

It is more about control than about public safety. They want to have you coming to them for everything, so they make the laws to a point where you are not legally allowed to take care of yourself.

Joe,
I ran my air conditioner for the first time last night as it was 90° here yesterday and is supposed to be 93 and humid today. Also we have already had two small fires and the fire season hasn't even started.

We ran ours last week and this morning I have the heater on. I really get tired of the huge temperature swings like this. Always makes me feel sick.

Yes, and the older you get the harder they are to adjust to. Now I see that by Monday we are supposed to have overcast and lower temperatures. The weather has gone insane out here. And the lack of water is really going to hurt food prices as there just won't be enough of it.

Here too. The price for meat is getting insane. Almost need to take out a loan to go grocery shopping. Big reason I am growing as much as my veggies as I can and hope to start growing fruit trees as well.

Joe,
Maybe one of these days you can have enough room to get some cattle and raise your own beef too. I just talked to my cousin and he had taken 6 calves to the stock yard and they offered him 60 cents a pound for them and he said that steak there was now $3.95 a pound. I told him to buy me a bunch and bring it out as here the stuff that looks as if it has been frozen and thawed is well over $4 a pound.

Pork is the only reasonably priced meat here. We are around 4.50 a pound for good steaks and 6.00 a pound for lean ground beef.

Joe,
Are you sure that you don't have some of our former politicians working for your state Govt. there? Your prices are as bad as ours. And ours are going to get worse. I just heard on the radio yesterday that the state has told the farmers they can't take any more water from the river as it is needed Down South, translated, those jerks need it to keep their swimming pools with fresh water. They didn't go into any details and I am trying to find out more about this, but it is really hard to get any information about our state Govt's secret dealings.

Unfortunately we do. So many influx from out of state because our state economy is doing well. Now they want to change our old backward laws to be like the ones that ruined the state they came from. Too stupid to realize that the laws that they want are what caused their state economy to collapse.

Boy, you got that right. These people out here complain and gripe and just keep sending the same liars and crooks back to Sacramento. And they keep passing laws that have no logic or reason. I think this state is going to collapse from the stupidity they have running things. No water, just take more from up North, never mind that they don't have enough to start with.

Definition of insanity; keep doing the same thing and expect a different result.

Hey all, it's been a while since I have posted on this thread.
We usually have two deer processed each year so meat is still not too bad for us. We also have friends of the family that raise Angus beef cattle and we can get a good deal through them yet. When we moved here they brought a dozen steaks for our housewarming gift.
How is everyone? Sorry, I haven't gone back to catch up on all the posts since the last visit.
Weather has been funky here. A couple weeks ago it was 75* on Saturday and snowed on Sunday. Of course the snow blower was already put away for the season, go figure.

Brent,
The weather has been weird all over. We had the driest season in history here and was on high fire alert all Winter. Water here is a big thing and there is very little of it. They have already cut the city allotment by 50% and then asked the people to cut their usage by 40%. And of course the water rates have gone out of sight.

Our neighbor just got a line on purchasing a whole cow processed into different cuts, but can only house 1/2 of it. We are looking to go in with him for 1/2. Hopefully it cuts down on the costs. I have about 4 deer steaks left. Those do not last long in my house.

We have done the 1/2 cow before and have the same issue with two deer in the freezer plus all the stuff from the garden. With our friends so close we just get what we need when needed.
Both kids like the venison tenderloins and back strap on the grill. When we first moved back to WI I was going to the lake with my daughter to go fishing and she (at 7 years old) said "I like deer, they are pretty and taste good too".
Emily will eat fresh fish for breakfast if there is any left over. She will not eat the stuff they serve at school. We also have some feral pigs around here and there is no closed season and no bag limit and if I had time I would be out there getting some for our freezer as well.
Ron, we had a couple wells in the area run dry a few years ago because they weren't deep enough and we didn't get enough rain. We had a wire break on our pump and found out it is 167' down and is three times the size needed and the well guy said we shouldn't worry about any issues with the pump itself as we could irrigate the farmland around us with it.

Sounds a lot like Texas with the pigs. I just picked the first of the radish from my garden this past weekend. I think that I am going to make a well my next major project on my place.

Brent & Joe,
You are both doing well and the wells are a big thing here for people that live in the mountains and don't have access to city water. Some of the small towns use well water as they are so remote it isn't practical to run water lines to them and now there isn't enough water to do so anyway. So far just a couple of them have had to haul water in, but it will be worse this Summer when the real heat hits.
