Fred,

That is a beautiful pup and he grew up to be a beautiful dog. I am glad that we don't have the amount of wild hogs around here that you have there. We have more trouble with bears coming down to look for food.

Ron

We don't have a bear problem at all.

Like what happened to the Indians in Texas. They caused enough trouble that they were killed or otherwise removed from the State.

Problem solved.

Ron61 05-15-2014 01:40 AM

:)

Fred,

Now how long until you solve the hog problem.

Ron

392cobra 05-15-2014 05:53 AM

Well,it appears that the hogs are tougher to deal with than the Indians and bears were.

Also better at screwing and repopulating too.:)

flipper35 05-15-2014 12:26 PM

They are pretty smart as well. Tough to hunt up here but I don't think there are that many hunting them up here compared to Texas.

Ron61 05-20-2014 02:22 AM

Fred,

Do you have many of them there on your property or are they located away from you a ways?

Ron

Joe Wicked 05-20-2014 05:47 AM

Just about every property has them in Texas. The only reason I don't right now is they haven't torn apart my fence yet.

Ron61 05-20-2014 05:50 AM

Joe,

Maybe you had better start building a rock wall if you want to keep them out. The few we do have around here that come down out of the canyons once in a while don't seem to have much trouble getting through barb wire and chain link fences. The bears on the other hand don't pay much attention to any kind of fence.

Ron

Ibr8k4vetts 05-20-2014 06:59 PM

I guess I should be happy? I only have to deal with Skunks and Possums! LOL

Ron61 05-21-2014 01:51 AM

Mike,

We have those here too. And the drought is causing animals to come down out of the mountains and canyons looking for water and food. I have disposed of 3 possums that I caught in my yard so far and I heard that a couple of bears had came into the city limits about 5 blocks from me and scattered trash cans around.

392cobra 05-21-2014 04:30 PM

I have just a few that come through. Had at least one go through a fence that happened to be in it's way.

Have a new animal to me I came upon this weekend. A Jaguarundi.

Ron61 05-22-2014 02:20 AM

OK Fred,

What is a Jaguarundi and are they native to Texas, or are you just making it up?

Ron

flipper35 05-22-2014 08:13 AM

Sounds like something you do when you see a big cat and then need to change.

Now,would I kid y'all ??

Seriously,I did see this wild cat last Sunday at 4 PM.
I was slowly,2-3 mph, coming down the hill to the north pasture and a water tank. When I was about 30 yards from the tank this animal came out from behind it. As soon as I saw it's whole body broadside I knew I had never seen one ever before. Long tail,as long as the cats body, and real thick.that was what caught my attention right off.
It did a fast walk/slow trot from my left to right heading to a brushy and wooded area with tall native grass.Got a good long look at him and him me.
Did a search online to try and figure out out I had seen.

Also contacted a Wildlife Management company I do business with. These wild cats,Jaguarundi, are seldom seen in Texas. I am on the far northern edge for them. They said a couple of years ago one was caught on camera several miles to my east. Same one ??
He suggested putting a live chicken in a cage with a camera set up near by.

Hey,I'm not past stealing a chicken to feed to a wild cat.:3DSMILE:

Here's a decent picture of one.

Fred,

That is a strange looking cat. The long hind legs and tail kind of remind me of the way a Kangaroo is. Are they supposed to be dangerous if you don't bother them?

Ron

Joe Wicked 05-23-2014 06:13 AM

I have never seen one or heard of one for that matter. Those long legs, he has to be a powerful jumper/pouncer. Probably has a very fast short sprint as well.

392cobra 05-23-2014 02:46 PM

They are suppose to be very good jumpers.

No,they are non-aggressive to humans. I am very pleased to know that.:)
They mainly eat rodents and small mammals. Chickens as well.

We have heard mountain lions at night screaming. They sound like a woman screaming.

They are welcome too. Help thin the hogs and deer.

Joe Wicked 05-23-2014 05:17 PM

If you have a deer problem I will volunteer to help thin them this coming hunting season. Have rifle will travel.

Ron61 05-24-2014 01:41 AM

Joe,

Maybe you and Fred can get together and go hunting. If nothing else maybe you could shoot a few hogs.

Ron :)

Joe Wicked 05-24-2014 03:53 AM

If he has the space and animals I am willing. I love to be out there hunting and I could use some pork in my freezer.
