It is getting cold here too. Just 48 this morning and that darn wind has blown for the past three days and nights. Dust and pollen are really bad. No driving as my sinuses are already in a real mess and this wind is not helping at all. It is still getting up to around the low 80s in the afternoons. As soon as the wind quits, it will be driving weather.

There are some red maples you got there.
You went out in the 57 degree weather? That's truely a sign.
Of what I am not sure, but it looks to be a sign.

Warren,
Now that is a great picture. The trees are really pretty this time of year.
Tru,
A sign of what when you go driving in 57 degree weather. We used to have an old guy here that would drive when it was in the 30s. Of course his mind was a little slow and he never realized he was cold until after he got home and then he was in side where he could warm up.

Frustrating I tell you. Today is the perfect day for a drive so I decided to drive down to Red Bluff and maybe take a few pictures. Got about a block from the house and noticed the voltmeter was just reading 11 volts. Panic, the darn high priced alternator isn't charging. Came back to the house and immediately burned my arm on the hot header when I reached down to see if all the wire were tight on the back of the alternator. All good and it was charging when I parked it the other day. Started looking and found the hot lead from the alternator had pulled out of the regulator plug. got that wedged back in and it immediately went to the normal 13/15 volts. Off again and I noticed the temperature was really going up fast when I slowed down. Fan light wasn't on. Stopped and checked the fan thermostat and the hot lead had fallen off. Put it back on and everything worked so I am on my way again for about a mile and the temperature started climbing when I hit traffic and this is a really nice day. Stopped again and the lead had fallen off again. Came home, got a pair of pliers and really mashed the connector that slides onto the terminal, deciding if I ruin it I can cut it off and put a new one on. Drove a few blocks to let the temp come up and then shut the motor off and the fans kicked right on. And by the way, the toggle switch worked ok all the time so I knew it had to be something with the thermostat. Now I have those two things fixed I think, but am hot, tired, nervous and just not in the mood to head for Red Bluff. I will never be able to drive like Warren.

Twice you mentioned "had fallen off"...
Isn't that what happens when you get old? Or were you talking about the Cobra? Electrical problems are the worst. I still do not have the headlights working properly, but in this weather (52 ºF at 3 PM), a ride in the afternoon is not too much fun. By the time the sun goes down .... brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr ... a ride is not fun!

Warren,
The connector for the fan thermostat had just gotten loose after all these years and a good mash with a pair of pliers has it tight now. If it comes off again, I will replace it as that is just a 5 minute job and very easy to get to as I mounted my thermostat where I could get to it easily. As for the power lead from the alternator to the regulator, that is easy to get to as it is right on top of my firewall, but I don't know if I can buy those plugs or not if it pulls out again. I may just try to jury rig something to hold it in the plug. Sure ruined what could have been the best day I have had for a long time. As for the age thing, old age and shaky motors will cause all kinds of problems.

The coldest I have ever driven in was a late November evening when a friend was visiting from Oklahoma and I still levied in Wisconsin. It was snowing a wet heavy snow so I had to take it really easy, but she had a good time. Parka and all.
When I went to Julian to scout out a honeymoon B&B there was snow on the ground still, but it was probably in the high 40's. I had a light jacket over a sweatshird and some deer skin gloves and a ball cap. It would have been too cold for Jenny, but it was OK to me.

Brent - High 40's ?????
You have not lived until you take a ride with temps in the teens. Last January all the snow was off the streets, the sun was out bright ... and I went for a ride for about 45 minutes. Stocking cap, scarf and heavy gloves along with 2 pair pants and super duty jacket.

The reason Warren is able to do all of that driving. His car stays together while mine falls apart.
